I'm currently going to school in New York at The New School, studying film. There are no puppet classes here, and I would really like to take some. When I was a little kid, I did stuff at the Eugene O'Neil in Connecticut, with the Puppetry Conference, but I've never really had the chance to pursue it further. I'd love to learn more about puppet building and animatronics.

My questions to you experienced Puppet People:

1) What are some good puppetry schools or classes?

2) Is there a benefit to studying puppetry in school, vs on your own time?

3) Are you more likely to find work post-school because of puppetry classes?

Thanks!

UNIMA in the US has a list of puppetry schools around the world on their website.
The University of Conneticut offers a four year bachelor of puppetry (That's right, nothing but puppetry) and is one of the only institutions that offers such a high degree of training. The site lists both short and long term courses.

Yeah, I'm tempted to apply to Uconn! But the debt I'm in from just one year at The New School makes me hesitant. :stick_out_tongue:
