Programs for cataloging your collection

I’m curious to know how other collectors catalog their collection. I have an extensive collection and have been cataloging it in a excel spreadsheet for many years. This worked well when my collection was smaller, but doesn’t seem to be working well anymore. I’m looking for a better way to manage the information. An Access database might work, but I would need a template as I’m not familiar with how to use that program. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
