No you're right. That's the rule, you can't be President if you weren't born in America. Who knows, they may have to change it if no one better comes along!

Nobody better's gonna come along, I think after a while we are gonna have to start voting either a dead president in, or we're gonna have to vote in an inanimate object/character in. I say that we take the politics out of Washington, DC and we put a guy in that doesn't have the views of either party, but has views of his own. Maybe that's just me.

You guys have brought up some very good points. I live about an hour away from New Orleans, so I know first hand how the Bush people messed that one up. Concerning the war, they all just want to stick it out so they won't look like political failures in this dillusion of theirs.....that by doing what they are doing is going to somehow bring peace to the middle east.

Yes, we're suppose to have a choice when going to vote....but its like you're choosing between Darth Vader or Jaba the Hut....in other words, the lesser of two evils.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, somebody that isn't affiliated with one of the two major parties will never win. Our system does not allow it. Without the major cash and backing of either the Democrats or Republicans an independent doesn't have a chance. I've always admired more independent and maverick politicians. Whether I agree with their politics or not, I always respect the fact that they aren't afraid to buck party lines and vote what is best for their constituents or country rather than what is best for themselves or their party. Show me a candidate that is willing to do this and Ill vote for him/her in a heart beat.

Yup, and I've known people who followed the "lesser of two evils" doctrine for years. It hasn't made them any happier!

Things will change eventually, but unfortunately things will have to get worse before they get better.

I dunno, I guess by the way that these campaigns are going, the Independents'll win because people are sick of hearing the candidates bad-mouthing the other candidates. I mean, a little mud slinging is fine, but they're talking about the other candidates like all they do is think of themselves while they eat baby fetus's and count their money, and it's just getting bad.

You have to be born in the US to be President? That, IMO, is pretty dumb. What if you were born in a different country but shortly moved to the US??

No, I believe they're more understanding if you weren't born here but lived hear and your parents were from here etc.

The idea behind the rule is so other nations can't try to infiltrate the US by getting a spy into our government. It's a precaution.

From the Constitution:

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

So it's more a law than a rule.
