Who here thinks that the old Muppets are not getting enough advertising? Recently all the ads only feature the more popular Muppets:
 , , :embarrassed: , :halo: and :concern: .Does anyone find this unjust or wrong? They can get top billing but I want my classics!!!Y'know, Sam & Janice.C'mon! The Looney Tunes are doing the same thing(Bugs, Daffy and Taz)!!! We see this on Sesame too! (Big Bird,Elmo and Telly) What do you think? Please post.

It makes sense that they would want to show off the characters that seem to be most popular. But I agree, it would be nice to see some others. The more the merrier!

I would love to see the Electric Mayhem again especially Janice. :flirt: Yes I can understand why they use the more popular characters more but I say use the popular ones and the other less poular together. Then everyone could be happy.

Rowlf needs more screen time. Grover and Cookie, too.

I think they use the characters that are appropriate for the situation, and most of the time, the classics are the easiest to put in any situation

but I agree, we need more Rowlf :sympathy:

Maybe not

I was thinking about this, and maybe it's not bad.

One of the things that has plagued the Muppets over the past decade (in my opinion) is a distinct lack of character.

I was watching "Of Muppets and Men: The Making of the Muppet Show" the other day, and Frank Oz made a good point. He said the dynamic of the show comes from the fact that Piggy loves Kermit but hates that creep, Gonzo; that Floyd hates Ms. Piggy, Fozzie just wants to be funny and Statler and Waldorf love heckling him... Muppets Tonight had nothing more than the sense of Panic going for it - no good interpersonal relationships.

Anyhow, the problem also comes from having too many Muppets - the more you have, the less you can concentrate on the characters of them. One of the things I enjoyed about MFS was that while there were all the various Muppets dancing in the house or in the background, they took time to pull Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Rizzo and Pepe from the crowd to give them more screentime. And the Christmas Movie was the first time I felt that I had really seen Kermit being himself since, well, 1989...

Wow, that's a lot of thinking to be pulling out of a commercial! But I do think that in order to keep the Muppets living and breathing it's necessary to focus on the more interesting characters (unless you're doing a series). Anyone notice that all the Star Trek TNG movies are basically about Picard and Data? They're the interesting ones. So while it was great to have entire episodes about Geordi, the movies need the good characters...

When you say 'Advertising' do you mean the actual ads (Mastercard, Denny's UPS, Etc?) or their screentime in shows/films? If you mean the commercials, it only makes sense to use the popular characters. You can't exactly have the lesser known characters promote credit cards and breakfast specials. It will sell better if Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo, Animal, and Fozzie promote them.

They are the main characters

  :embarrassed: :concern: :halo: are used a lot, but so isn't Pepe, Rizzo, our two favorite grumpy comentators Statler and Waldorf, and now Rowlf, Beaker and the Chef.

So we may have to wait a little longer on the rest of the Electric mayhem and a few others, but other than that, we're seeing characters we haven't seen in years...

As for Kevin... I'd say that having 3 Cookie Monster episodes, the Letter of the Day, several Grover episodes and Global Grover aren't enough for you? I personally want to see more of Grundgetta, other than a background character (she was used in one seen talking to Oscar in the background)

I have to admit that I haven't been watching SS lately, so I'm not "fur" sure how often Cookie and Grover are used. I do think I'd love to see lots of the old regulars return, though.
