I think this is a great discussion. Here is my two cents.

When I first started getting into the puppetry scene, I joined two puppetry organizations. One was local and the other was in the US.

The US organization I joined becase it had experts that I could contact and a video database that I could access. Well I quickly found that few of my emails were answered by these experts, I was bounced back and forth between and ultimately my questions were never answered. They lost a member because (as it has been pointed out already) they offered me nothing for my money. It was a waste of money for me.

The local organization was very welcoming. I attended a couple of meetings, did some volunteer work, they did a write up or two about me. It was worth the money initially. I untimately stopped paying to be a member of this groups because the services for me stopped there. I actually made some suggestions to help the oraganization serve their members better, but the ideas did not fit into their future plans. Unlimately I stopped being a member because the organization had nothing else to offer me. I think the people of the organization are amazing individuals, but that was not enough to warrant me paying my hard earned dough to be a member.

So I am curious, what are some of the needs of the puppetry community? From established puppetry people to newly interested, I would love to hear what people would want from these organizations.
