I've been wondering, for the full-body muppets, how much of those characters can come off?

I know that Big Bird is a two-piece puppet, with the legs being a seperate piece from the rest of the body, connected to a pair of orange pants. I have read that Mr. Snuffleupagus is a one-piece puppet.

I know that the heads of the Gorgs come off, and I'm sure that their waists are removable, too.

Sweetums looks like he comes off at the neck and waist (I know that the head comes off), and I think that his hands and feet are removable.

The Mutations look like they come off the same way as Sweetums, and Fletcherbird looks like he is put on the same way as Big Bird.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sam the Robot's head could come off and if other parts could be opened, like a door or window.

I think Bruno would be put on like a normal outfit, with the head and clothes being removable.

I'm trying to figure out about Thog. I have never seen any pictures of any performers in half of the Thog suit, though I've read that there is a picture of Steve Whitmire performing Thog in Of Muppets and Men. Looking at Thog, it seems like the top half of him is a bit lighter than the lower half, and he seems a bit shaggier around the chest. Though his arms look higher than that, and they don't appear to be removable.

I've seen two pictures of Timmy with his head off, so I know that the head is removable at the neck (I would have thougth he was one piece, and the performer would get in through the motuh). While watching the Julie Andrews episode, it looks like his hands are removable.

Actually most of the larger characters come apart in many pieces since some parts wear out before others. But they are designed to come off in fewer parts in case of an emergency. Big Bird is actually in 6 or 8 parts (it was kind of sad to see him decapitated once) and it's only th every large characters Like Thog that are in 1 or 2 parts.

I saw the actual Thog as a kid in Toronto. I don't know how many pieces it was actually constructed in, but if memory serves the body was in two pieces, a lower body and then upper body/head. The seam was concealed by the shaggier fur you mentioned. I assume that the legs and feet were separate as well.

The Snuffleupagus breaks in half like a costume store horse suit.
