Peanuts becomes graphic novel

That's pretty strange, yet cool news. The story WILL be based off of Schulz, but will feature new artwork in that style by others. This will be an adaption of an upcoming special... and it's the first Peanuts comic book outside of reprinting the strips since the Dell ones (which I know little about).

If the Dell ones are what I'm thinking of, I've got a few of those books. This is very interesting to hear about indeed, especially since Charles Schulz seemed to be pretty adamant about not having anyone continue the strip after he had died. I guess the family decided to allow this as a tribute to him.
But as a Peanuts fan, I'm definitely interested in it.

Yeah... it's not so much a strip as an adaption. He DID do the story... same technicality that keeps specials going after he passed a while back. They seem to have got the artwork down pretty good, actually.

never seen the Dells... I have a Dell Fat Albert, but that's not even close... freakishly interesting (and not really in a good way) but not close.

Okay- never mind what I said about the Dell comics.
I've got a few books published by Fawcett Crest from the '50s and '60s- but these are just compilations of newspaper strips, not the Dell comics you're talking about. I imagine those are probably hard to come by (at least for a decent price.)
You can at least see a few pages of some of the issues through Mile High Comics' site though.

I have mixed feeling on this.
Does any one remember when Charles Schulz said- "My family does not wish Peanuts to be continued by anyone else..." But I think Charles whould be fine with this book since his son is making it. And if you didn't know, most of the dialogue is taken from Charles Schulzs books.
But on the other hand it's being made with out Bill Melendez or Lee Mendelson on the production team, which is something Charles Schulz would not of done.
(Yes I'm a die hard Peanuts fan)

I might have to take a look at this. I just hope that my Hastings gets these or i'll just have a fit. I have alot of the older Peanut books that came out back in the 70's and 80's that have all sorts of his news paper strips through out his years but this'll be pretty cool.

Also i didn't know that that newest DVD that came out is a new special. I just thought it might be older specials but with a new cover on the front of the DVD case. I might have to take a look at this too.

I'm not a hard fan but i'm still a fan of Charles Schulz and his team. He's the one who helped Jim Davis on the very first Garfield special. It was on how would Garfield stand up on his two hind legs? It was pretty cool to hear about Jim talk about that.

I think when it comes down to it, it's not so much someone else drawing them (you need someone else to draw the characters for merchandising anyway, and I don't think there was any stipulation about that) so much as it is about writing. he doesn't want anyone else writing for the characters. Even the kid's books are based on strips he wrote. This is because certain other strips that were continued long after the original author passed on... well, they're hit or miss anyway.

Yeah, the graphic novel sounds good and all, but it's all a movie adaption. I'm not a huge fan of that, and I'd rather see the movie... but maybe the GN will have a better pacing.

Hmm, I don't know, I mean the illustrations are perfect, but the jokes are a little off to me.
