Just wanted to know how everybody makes their PBJ sandwiches.

I put butter on white bread, then peanut butter, and then jelly (grapes the best).

The people at work thought it was weird that I put butter on my PBJ sandwiches.

So do you guys use butter on yours?

When I first got married an my husband first saw me "buttering" my PB&J sandwich, he thought I was nuts! (no pun intended) The fact is, thats how my mother always made them, so the ritual kinda "stuck". Since then, though, I've had to start watching my weight, and in order to do so, the butter has had to go! (Thinking back on it now, I think I know why mom always buttered them. The fact was her "Home-made wheat bread" was always so dry that, even with milk, butter was still required in order to be able to swallow it down. LOL!)

I usually put a little butter on the bread first before the peanut butter. I was told once that the butter helps keep the bread together. I believe it because whenever I spread the peanut butter on first, the bread crumbles. I usually toast my bread though when i have a pb and j though. That way I don't have to worry about weak bread!

Wheat bread, then very little peanut butter, wipe the extra PB off on a clean piece of bread, then comes gobs and gobs of grape jelly:smile:

I've never heard of that, putting butter on a PB&J sandwich. Interesting, though... I usually just spread creamy Skippy peanut butter on both slices of white bread, then add either grape or strawberry jam generously and press both halves together neatly. Sometimes, I'll cut the sandwich in half, depending on my mood. And, voila!

Apparently my co-workers have never heard of it either. Their reaction couldn't have been more shocked to hear of it. I guess it was just the way I always made it so it never occurred to me that it might be strange or different.

Hmm. Coincidentally enough, I seem to remember that in the film The NeverEnding Story I when Bastian is making a PB&J sandwich for lunch at his kitchen table, he puts what looks like regular butter on the bread first -- then, peanut butter followed by jam... I'll have to rewatch it, just to make certain, but I'm 98% sure.
