Have you ever found it interesting that the early Sesame Street albums, like Sesame Street 1 and Sesame Street 2, advertised their records as having the "Original Cast" when at that time, they were the ONLY cast? Of course, the distinction that they were making then was that it wasn't different performers singing the Sesame Street songs (as was the case on many other Sesame Street albums at the time). Today, the term "Original Cast" has a whole new meaning since so many actors have come and gone on the show. It's one advertising slogan that has aged well.

Yeah, the whole reason they did it was because both Disney and Peter Pan records released their own unofficial Sesame Street albums.

There was also a record from about 1970 titled "Rubber Duckie" on the label "Rocking Horse Records". It features the title track along with the Sesame Street theme done by the "Rocking Horse Chorus and Orchestra". It has a few other songs such as "Ozzie the Ostrich", "A My Name is Alice", "Tail of Dickie Dragon", and "Drag the Magic Puffin". I think at least one of these songs was written by Jeff Moss.

O.C. Album

If you notice on ebay, the Original Cast Album was available with at least three different covers.

#1 Group shot of the adults plus Big Bird. A few kids are seen sitting on the side.

#2 The adults and a number of kids standing on the front steps, and Big Bird is off to the side.

#3 Individual head shots of the adults (Gordon with Orange oscar), plus shots of Ernie and Bert, Big Bird, the Anything family, and best of all, a picture of Brown Grover and Beautiful Day. If you ever see it on ebay, grab this one before someone else does!

I had a friend who had the #3 album cover. I wouldn't go into her bedroom until she hid the album under her bed because it had a picture of Beautiful Day on it. Heh heh....

I'm happy to say that I own all three! (For me, it wasn't eBay, but days of sorting through the record sections at my local thrift stores.

I like the Individual Head Shot version of the album best, although the pictures and credits are somewhat misleading. The "Anything Family" is shown, but it is NOT the anything family from "Five People In My Family" as sung on the album; rather it is the anything family from an early episode where Gordon creates a family that sings the theme from Oliver. This can be easily seen by the fact that the picture includes TWO adult males (a father and an uncle) as opposed to the "Five" number where there were two boys as the brothers. Also, Brown Grover and Beautiful Day Monster are credited as "Two Monsters", implying that they are the "Two Monsters" that sang "Up and Down", but in fact it was Cookie Monster and Herry. I find these minor imperfections to be interesting, not problematic and I absolutely love the album with all of its rich history.
