The running gags in TMM are just horrible groaners but I always felt what made them funny is that they just kept using them over and over again. If it would have been once it wouldn't of worked but their commmitment to terrible puns and wordplay made them work.

With word puns you really do just have to go for it and not be embarrassed; it's the only way they do work.
