Does anyone remember that old Sesame Street live action skit about crosswalk pedestrian signals? You know, with the speeded up footage of people crossing and waiting and the closeups of an old 70s/80s incandescent pedestrian signal either reading "WALK" in Lunar White or "DONT WALK" in Portland Orange. Here are the lines from it, as said by little kids (who voiceover the skit when it shows the signal).

"Walk. Don't walk. Okay, walk. Now don't walk. Wait wait wait. Now walk. Walk."

Unfortunately, we won't be able to see any of those signals soon because they're being replaced by newer LED signals without words (with the orange upraised hand and the white walking guy.)

When was this skit made and debuted?

A lot of sketches about "walk/don't walk" have probably been retired already because of the new, wordless signals. (I bet that the new generation of Sesame Workshop composers are desperately searching for decent lyrics about a red hand and a white stick figure...*giggles*)

I meant: Now that the street signals for pedestrians use pictures instead of words, the Sesame Street writers will have to come up with new material if they want to teach about those signals.

I think they should do some Sesame Street segments about those new digital crosswalk signals with countdown timers on them! I have seen several of them in different cities, and Washington D.C. has them at almost every intersection.

New York City doesn't have them, though. The city DOES, however, have special audible crosswalk signals for the blind at select intersections. That could make a good skit idea.
