Tomorrow I'll have been here at MC for three years, and I was looking at some old posts/threads and was reminded of all of the great people I've known here. Having been here for some time, I've seen many people come and go - like I'm a teacher at a school and watch students come then leave, in fact, I know that many people who may even post in this thread will no longer be here this time next year! I don't plan on going anywhere as MC is so special to me, but it makes me wonder:
Who was in your freshman class? Not necessarily the members that joined when you did, but your first real friends here? Beau, Count, Kevin, Byron, and a ton of other members were here long before me, but when I joined, they didn't know me or pay particular close attention to me or my posts! So I started posting with people like Barry Lee, Kyle and a little forgotten lad from Ireland named Uncle Deadly. Fortunately most of my "original" friends are still here, but people like UD aren't! Who did you first post with? Are they still here? I miss UD and wonder if he'll ever come back, but it's interesting how people come and go.
What top posters/popular members were kind to you/posted back and forth with you? Eventually guys and gals like Beau, FISHn'WOLFE, JediX, Beebers, Whatever, Kev, Byron and many more started chatting with me. Bowling for Soup sings "High School Never Ends", and though it may be unfortunate; talkin' with the popular kids does boost your popularity. And that can go either way. I recently saw a thread from a member who was upset no one posted in their thread (I've seen dozens of threads like that!), and that isn't going to work out for anyone because it looks like a desperate plea for attention. I'm very happy that we're fortunate to have so many senior members here who "reach out" and make newbies feel welcome though.
What new members did you welcome that have stayed? I found myself chatting often with people like Ryan, Lisa, Beth, bobhopesite, Christy, TA and others eventually, and now they're some of the coolest members here, while others have disapeared or become that of lost legend! BEAR and I actually didn't start off on the right foot, and I had to publicly apologize to him, now fortunately, we both respect and enjoy each other!
What will your future hold? I'm relatively certain that I'll be here for years to come. I've got three years under my belt and I'm an adult who's interests aren't going to change that much more like perhaps some younger members might. I won't name names, but I look at the "new class" of MCers that have recently joined and I have a vague idea who'll be here in a year and those that'll vanish in a few months, as it's a regular cycle that's been going on since long before I joined.
So what do you all think?
