You'll probably need to register before you can really poke around, and only paid subscription gives you access to search ALL the messages back to the beginning of time. I don't like it more than anyone else, but that's how the service runs things. Perhaps if the board is upgraded it won't require that - not sure about that though.

I guess it's a bigger deal to some more than others, and upto whatever Phillip decides of course. It can just be unlocked and locked again now basic members can be wizards again so maybe thats the solution. I don't think it's a good idea to hand over membership since the original posters never really agreed to that. My issue with it is privacy actually, i used to post a lot about work or my private life. The internet has changed so much now i rarely use my real name on boards. Of course there are flame wars i'd rather forget but there were good times too.

Well if you're talking about member account info, I don't think being an admin allows that access to that - since when you register at Delphi you register to the whole system not just one board. And since pretty much any average joe can go over there and set up a board, it'd be a huge security problem.

As for the privacy issue, making someone else the admin really wouldn't make it any different than how it's been for the last 2 years. Only a few months ago did they start limiting how far back in time non-paying members could look. And I hate to get into all the legal garbage of internet privacy, but since its infancy, anything that gets posted on any message board automatically becomes public domain (or public only to members who have registered if the board operates that way).

For all intents and purposes, it wouldn't change at all. I don't want to make it a fucntional message board again, just let it sit as an archive of sorts. Family isn't always great - there are fights and disagreements, but it's still family. For me, to lose that board would be like seeing the family photo album tossed into the fireplace.

Yeah i was talking more about actual content in posts. What i was posting about myself in 1997 i definitely wouldn't consider doing nowadays. As long as there was a mod in charge who could address any issues people who had posted there had it might be ok. All theoretical really though for now.

Ahh, ok. Well I guess if it's a problem, the admin could 'black out' lines of text that a member didn't want shown.

Im surprised there is still an interest in the old forums. I personally am not ashamed of anything I have ever written, even when it was in the heat of battle. Ive had apocalyptic flame wars on the old MC forum, this one, Palisades, Tough Pigs, etc...but its what makes us grow.

But yeah, those were some darn good times, even the flame wars.

If theres some way of getting access to the forum database and saving it to a file it could be possible to import it into a new forum on another server somewhere but im not sure it delphi forums are compatible with any others. I doubt anyone could access the database anyway but its a thought.

Phil I responded to your email - if you don't see it in your inbox, check the bulk folder as a lot of email programs seem to like sending my emails directly to the spam bin (something to do with my verizon isp apparently).

As for getting ahold of the database, it'd be nice and I guess we could find someone to write some cheap .asp to make it accessable. Well beyond my knowledge though. I wish there were a bloody phone number for Delphi. I hate doing business-related stuff through email.
