I'm guessing (theorizing) taht these were left out because sesame workshop was unable to get rights to use those songs for the dvd? "Consider Yourself" is that broadway tune from Oliver! and Stevie Wonder composed his special version of '1-2-3 sesame street', so SS probably had the rights to broadcast these at the time they were initially used for the show back in the early 70s, but either those rights expired and they couldn't get them renewed...or it might have been too expensive/difficult to get renewed permission, so for the sake of getting the dvds out with minimal hassle, they just cut them out altogether.
What's more confusing is that the Stevie Wonder song was included on the "Songs From the Street" 3CD box set (audio only).
I'm sure you all agree with me that the edits are a bummer, but we can also agree that
it's not the end of the world. In order to prevent all "heck" breaking loose on the forums, here are some steps to take:
1) Buy the set anyway. There's some great material on it that wasn't shown on Noggin, and besides, Sesame Workshop needs our support.
2) Write polite letters to Sesame Workshop expressing both your gratitude for their efforts to reach out to Sesame Street's older audience, and your hopes that future sets will be un-edited.
3) SAVE YOUR NOGGIN RECORDINGS. Use them to make full edits if you can. The Wiki guides may come in handy for that.
4) If you must vent out any anger, do it at Amazon.com or any other such place where you can write reviews. Venting out anger on the forums will only drive people away from them. You remember what happened when Noggin stopped showing "Unpaved."
In short, just chill. OK? Things could be a whole lot worse.
