When I went to Walt Disney World in 1991 and 1995, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were at the MGM studios to sign autographs. Does anybody know why they were there? How long did they make appearances at the theme park?

Could The Walt Disney Company have been interested in buying the Ninja Turtles, similar to how Disney was interested in buying the muppets (and was able to have a few muppet attractions at the theme park around that time) and Bullwinkle (I've read about Disney wanting to buy the rights to Bullwinkle in an article by Jim Hill about the failed deal between Disney and Henson)?

no Disney did not want to buy the Turtles, they just had the rights to have them walkin in the park! I have a pic with them back then, they where they til the end of 95 and where gone! Bullwinkle is ture... back in the early 90's Disney was looking for "new" caractors for the company (like the Muppets) but some how Universal swooped them up right under Mickeys nose!

During the week in 1995 that I went to Walt Disney World, I saw some kind of brochure that advertised various attractions, and in a page featuring the turtles, I think there was a note saying that they were going to be there untill a certain time. I wasn't sure if they were really leaving on that day or what, but I went to MGM and saw the turtles on the day before they supposedly left.

It would make sense for them not to be at the park anymore. With the newer cartoon, kids might be confused by their looks.

I went to the MGM Studios two times, and seeing Muppetvision 3D and the Ninja Turtles are the best memories I have from going there both times (though I also fondly remember visiting the Great Movie Ride and watching something about how Disney animation is made).

I was just reading about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at Wikpedia, and according to that site, the Ninja Turtles were at Walt Disney World from 1990-1996. I'm not sure how right or wrong that website was.
