The eyes are made from plastic spoons i cut the pupils freehand out of sticky backed flocked plastic it's the same stuff the muppets pupils are made from the mouth plate in this puppet is thick cardboard lined inside and out with strong fleece.

Many thanks for the insight, I use elastic for keeping the hand in the mouth, but have thought about fabric lined foam tubing, what method do you use or does the foam of the head do that? I make a framework of 1/2" foam then cover with foam or fleece, what do you use? How do you obtain Antron fleece in the UK, I buy it in from one of the US puppetry sites, but it works out really expensive especially when customs get hold of it! Do you just use washing machine dyes like Dylon to colour it, I am really scared of wasting my precious fabric! Any advice you can offer will be gratefully received!
Many thanks Mandy

I am also in the UK and have done endless research for an Antron fleece manufacturer over here and have turned up with nothing. I get it from our lass at GASTAGE - and its superb stuff. Haven't tried out the new antron replacement, I'm still working on using the old stuff! :-p

whatadoodle, I feel the same when it comes to dying, I use cold wash Dylon dyes and dye in a hot tub of water in the bath - works all the time. I darn't machine wash the stuff - it turns out horrible!

Labrat's puppets are always superb. I will hopefully be piecing my own works of puppet art and joining him on ebay ;-) lol

Well I hope they're better than some of the UK ones on ebay at the moment. LabRat excluded the ebay uk puppets at the mo are fairly dire. I'm always amused to see them described as professional puppets!

I think that the UK has alot to offer in the field of Puppet Building and Performance, but we are behind the US in being able to make money at it. I agree that there have been several unworthy "professional puppets" sold on EBay (converted teddies and the like), but I hate to say it, it is a saved search of mine, an equal number come from other countries including the States. You pays your money, you takes your choice! I have never sold mine because I find it hard to part with them, though I plan to soon, just to fund my puppetting "habit"!
