New Puppet: Git!

Hey all,

Here's a new puppet I just finished. It's for some promotional stuff for the FITC design festival that's happening near the end of April.

Interesting puppet. I really like the fingernails. Also, i think that the eyes are a bit far apart.

I thought that to for a bit...but then I saw this picture and it really made the character for me, because you can see it "thinking." What brings the eyes together is the eyebrows---but also the glasses because they frame the pupils. And to me that made them appear smaller.......but it also might be the angle of the picture + lighting.

ha, I went straight to the pictures and didn't read the comments, and then was urged to come back here and say how I liked the eyes, especially how big you made the material under the eyes. Really makes his eyes kinda pop out or something. Very original, detailed and still in the Hogg style. Nice work.

Whether or not the eyes ought to be closer, he's gelled in my head, and that's his face.

And thanks, Kevin, I'm glad you like it. I'm happy with it on the whole; looks like a nice finished, polished puppet. Like some professional did it, or something.

I love that when his mouth is closed he looks slightly sad. I'm a big fan of hinting at emotion.

That was totally an accident, but I'm happy to take the credit for it.

He reminds me of the "Invader Zim" style. I like him, and he makes me wonder when the black nail polish on men will fade back into the style archives. Maybe that's why his name is Git, because he can be a git?

I was intrieged when you said he's for the "FITC design festival", and I looked it up. Looks pretty cool. How does our boy Git fit into that? Contest, exposure, just fun?

Yeah, I suppose he does have a bit of a Zim style, though that's unintentional.

His name is now Gideon, because even though Git is suitably descriptive, it is a straight-up derogatory term. Gideon will be interviewing some of the speakers of the festival, both before the festival and during. It'll be some nice easy fun for the festival.

I see some Jhonen Vazquez style thrown in the puppety Muppety mix here and that's a good thing! Great puppet! I'd give his show a viewing on the impressive puppet quality alone. I like the conceptual art a lot, but I like the final piece much better. You really have allowed the character to find his own shape. I'm not a puppet builder, yet that always seems the best way to go.
