I was looking through the old Muppet Central Archive and I noticed an article that said that The Henson Co. bought rights to a story that they wanted to make into a movie. It was about how Kermit and the rest of the Muppets were living in Hollywood and Kermit didn't like what was going on so they left or something. Is that movie still going to happen or what?

From the description, it sounds like you're referring to The Next Muppet Movie (that was the working title of it -- not a prediction of its release). This is one of several projects that Henson has in various stages of development. Others include The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made (read Jerry Juhl's interview at this site for info on that one), the "Frank movie" (Frank Oz said he was interested in directing the next Muppet film in Feb. 2000, which may or may not have been "Cheapest"), Muppet Haunted House (this one has been in development limbo forever -- the current writers attached to the project are the ones behind Greg the Bunny), and Muppet Time Travel (we've never heard anything more besides its being mentioned by name in a press release last summer; that may be as far as they ever got on it).

Like all studios, Henson keeps several projects in development at once, because usually most of them fall by the wayside until only one of them gets made. Right now, the only Classic Muppet projects that are currently full-speed-ahead are Kermit's Swamp Years (already filmed, will be released on video later this summer), the Christmas TV-movie for NBC, and the new series for Fox. Everything else, including Next Mup. Movie, is on the back burner right now. It's unlikely that it will get resurrected, but then again, Cheapest has been bouncing around the Henson offices since when Jim was still alive, and they still talk about it from time to time. So who knows?

Hope this answered your question.
