Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself as a new member on this forum. My name is Walter Beals, and I've recently become a puppet maker. I have an MA in Theatre Production, and as part of my degree I took a beginner, and advanced puppet making class. Only recently did I have an opportunity to use my new skills. Working for a theatre in Sullivan, IL, I was asked to build 11 puppets (19 characters) for their Christmas show.

Have a look: http://www.thatguywhojuggles.com/Gallery/Puppets1/index.htm

I'd love some feedback from you pros out there. I'm still new at this, and eager to learn more.

I am also into GM Foam prosthetics. My latest project can be seen here: thatguywhojuggles com Gallery prosthetics index.htm

Some day I'd like to experiment with making a puppet out of dense GM Foam.

Currently I am working on a hard head puppet (paper mache) with articulated mouth and eyelids. I'm keeping detailed images of the process of building it which I will put on my website soon.

Anyway, thanks for letting me share.

Walter

Hey, I hope this isn't against the rules, but I am reposting your URLs for you.

It's interesting to me how many different ways there are to go about building puppets. I have a BFA in Graphic Design and just started puppetmaking recently and thought there was just one "right way" to do it, until I started reading up on it. I've yet to post any photos of my stuff (just haven't gotten around to it) but am hoping to have a business up and running by the end of the year... Seeing how other people build their puppets is definitely inspirational.

Nice stuff!

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome and all the nice compliments. I'm a member on other forums. I can't believe I never thought, until now, of joining a puppetry one.

Thanks again, and I look forward to meeting everyone here.

Nice to meet you, Joey.

Tztz: I'm very curious about your program. I'd love to see it. And I do have more photos. In fact I am diligently documenting the process of building the puppet I am working on right now. I'll be posting images soon on my website of the sculpting of the head, the casting of that sculpture, and the paper mache application. Plus I'll keep adding photos as I build him.

I'll let everyone know when I have new images up.
