This is just an idea I've tossed about for a while. It would be done in classic Sesame Street style, in which Mr. Hooper's grandson, Max, buys back Hooper's Store from Alan. Max brings the store back to the 70's look, and puts up a Help Wanted sign...and no sooner does he do that, Scooter shows up, and is hired to help behind the counter (of course, he begins to mention his uncle owns the place, but forgets where he is for a second).
I think it would go something like this. Maria would be walking along the street with Big Bird.
MARIA: "Hi, there! Welcome to Sesame Street! You came on a very big day, someone new is moving into the neighborhood."
BIG BIRD: "Really? Who is it?"
MARIA: "Mr. Hooper!"
BIG BIRD: "Wait a minute, Maria...Mr. Looper..."
MARIA: "Hooper, Big Bird, Hooper..."
BIG BIRD: "Oh yeah. Mr. Hooper died a long time ago and he's never coming back! How can Mr. Looper..."
MARIA: "Hooper..."
BIG BIRD: "...be coming back?"
MARIA: "Well, it's actually a *different* Mr. Hooper. Alan moved away because he wanted to be an actor, and so Mr. Hooper's grandson bought the store from him."
BIG BIRD: "Oh boy! We definitely have a new Mr. Looper..."
MARIA: "Hooper, Big Bird!"
BIG BIRD: "...in town!"
(they cross over to Hooper's Store, where everyone is there to greet Mr. Hooper's grandson, Max. Max is a mid-sized young man with glasses, a bow tie, and apron, almost the spitting image of his grandfather.)
BOB: "Hi, Maria, Big Bird! You're just in time, Mr. Hooper just got in!"
MAX: "Hello to all of you! I'm looking forward to living and working here. You know, I always knew one day I'd end up owning my grandfather's store. Milkshakes for everybody!"
(everybody cheers)
(a few segments later...Big Bird is sipping on a birdseed milkshake when Max approaches him)
MAX: "Big Bird, what's wrong? Not enjoying your birdseed milkshake?"
BIG BIRD: "Oh, it's terrific, thank you. But I'm confused."
MAX: "How so?"
BIG BIRD: "Well, I don't know whether to call you Mr. Looper..."
MAX: "Hooper, Big Bird, Hooper! Hooper!"
BIG BIRD: "...or to call you Max!"
MAX: "Well, that is a bit of a puzzle. You see, my grandfather was Mr. Hooper, and so was my father, and so am I."
BIG BIRD: "Yeah, that is a bit confusing."
MAX: "Tell you what. You can call me Max, but you can also call me Mr. Hooper if you feel like it."
BIG BIRD: "Wow! That's great, Max...er, I mean, Mr. Looper!"
MAX: "That's Hooper, Big Bird! Hooper! Hooper!"
(the two of them are chatting as someone reads off the letters and number of the day)
THE NEXT DAY'S STREET SEGMENTS:
MAX: "Hi! Welcome to Sesame Street! Well, the store is open, but I could use a little help around here. I know...I'll put this sign out. If people read it when they pass, and they want a job, they can come in and ask for one, and if I think they're good at it, I let them work here!" *puts out a HELP WANTED sign*
(no sooner does this happen does an orange Muppet with a green jacket, yellow t-shirt, glasses, and a shock of red hair approach the store)
SCOOTER: "Hi!"
MAX: "Hello yourself!"
SCOOTER: "I'm Scooter!"
MAX: "Cute. Cute name."
SCOOTER: "I was looking for a day job, and a friend of mine told me you were looking for help!"
MAX: "Uh-HUH. Tell me, Scooter...is this friend of yours green and have flippers?"
SCOOTER: "How did you know?"
MAX: "Lucky guess."
SCOOTER: "Anyway, I'd like to be your new go-fer."
MAX: "Gopher? Hmmm, since I moved here I've seen people, grouches, monsters, and a big yellow bird, but no gophers. In fact, you don't even resemble a gopher."
SCOOTER: "Not THAT kind of gopher. I go-fer coffee, go-fer sandwiches, go-fer anything you need!"
MAX: "Well, I don't know...we have a busy lunch rush around here, and..."
SCOOTER: "Awww, please? I'll work fast, I'll work cheap, and....my uncle..." *suddenly looks up and remembers where he is* "...never mind."
MAX: "Your uncle what?"
SCOOTER: "Sorry, old habit."
MAX: *after a few seconds' deliberation* "OK, you're hired. You start today, help me at the counter. Now, I could use some help in the kitchen...do you know a good chef?"
SCOOTER: "Do I know a good chef? Well....you could say that..."
