Hi... Not Kate (Fragglemuppet), but I can help a little.
Yes, the reason Doc and Sprocket moved was out of solidarity/support for Ned.
Don't think Ned's illness was revealed, but I could be wrong.
Not sure if the Fraggle Five met Doc in the last episode after finding the new tunnel that took them to Arizona, but there were a few travelers besides Gobo such as Aretha who joined him in making it out to the desert to remind Doc of the message the Trash Heap gave them... "You can't leave the magic!"
