Hi all,

I started creating my website a month ago, and I wanted it to be Perfect before I showed you guys.

http://www.thirdfloorpuppets.com/

Its near perfect....eventually I want to hyperlink names and websites, set up a store, add another gallery that has movies. However I do have my resume up there and current and past work in the gallary. I recently got cast in my schools production of "Little Shop of Horrors" as the Puppeteer.

On the website is a section dedicated to the Puppetry Club I started at my high school. Today was our first meeting of the year and I was really pleased because I had 8 New members And 7 of them had/do puppeteer and build puppets and are/were really excited about the club. The really good part is most are freshmen, so I have them for awhile and they can eventually take over.

In May I annouced here that the Puppetry Club was having a Variety Show and now the performance is available on a 2-Disc set. We have included Special Features such as Commentary from the Director, Writer and Producer as well as two featurettes on our TV Spots, Advertisements & Puppet & Set Design. There is more info on the website (posted above) in the Puppetry Club section. Also while there check out the Newest commercial we made to advertise the return of the Club.

Along with doing the Puppetry Club, Little Shop and Junior year school work, I am also currently working on making a realistic animatronic representation of my Siberian Husky who died the day after the variety show, its a going to be a tribute and a personal family thing. However I will post pictures. So far I have it sculpted and next I will make the mold, then fiberglass, then latex and then the furring. My self imposed deadline is the week of May 25th.

I know I threw a lot at you guys to read.
If you want to add me to your *cough* myspace friends my url is

Well, all the best

Awesome site! The Husky tribute sounds great, I can't wait to see it. What a nice sentiment.

Ok, here are some pictures of my dog sculpture. I used Roma Plastilina #4 and for the eyes I used taxidermy boar eyes. I purchased them from Van Dykes Taxidermy, I also bought a jaw set cuz I don't want to make a jaw and teeth myself and the nose is a fake coyote nose.

my next step is to make a mold of it. I am going to buy the products later this week and hopefully start soon, but it probably won't be until my schools Holiday Break in December that I have enough time to do it.

I know that the sculpture is not "smooth as glass" but its pretty close and I really just need to have the clay that smooth in the inside of the ears and the muzzle, because thats where the exposed latex is going to be. Everything else will be covered with fur.

Like the sculpt?

Hey Teenager's,

That is a great sculpt!

Can I offer some unsolicited advice?

I know you are covering it with fur, but my two cents is to take the time to smooth out the sculpt more (I know you feel you don't need to but it can make a difference). Depending on the fur you use, a thin deer fur can show bumps and ridges. Also it is a good habit to get into (smoothing that is).

You have a great shape and it will be a super puppet, but I believe some extra time and care will be well worth it. I think that plastinlina is oil based correct? If so, then use some rubbing alcohol to get a smooth surface. It can be time consuming, but I know people who actually find it very relaxing. You can do it in front of the t.v. even.

Also, as you smooth out your sculpture it forces you to look at it more and you can fix things (like refine the ears) and make sure all of the sculpt has proper symmetry.

I think it is a super sculpt. You are already very talented.

Yea, there are definetly some points that I need to smooth out parts under the chin and such. I have been playing around with rubbing the alcohol on, but this is my first sculpture and I didn't know what to do after I rubbed it into the clay. The neat think about having the understructure be fiberglass is that I can sand down any parts I don't like. I was also going to add a little bit of foam onto the fiberglass to build out his cheecks. Also the only parts that are going to show as latex are the eye lids, inside of the ears and the tip of the muzzle and parts of the mouth. So far I have smoothed out those portions to satisfyingly smoothness. For the fur I am going to use either faux taxidermy fur if I like what they have & I should. It would be nice to order from National Fiber Tech...but I don't have the money and generally fur stores (mendels) doesn't have the kind of thickness I want in the colors I need. So.....& I'm sorry if I offend some people my last resort will be to use rabbit pelts, because they're the texture I need, colors & it's cheap. However the taxidermy place I use should have what I want because they have everything.

That Left ear definetly needs to be fixed because it looks like a huge hunk was bitten off or something. The ears were/are a hard thing to do....because underneath I have two small plastic round bits and tinfoil covering that......the ears are kind of flimsy and it worries me each time I move a lot of clay around.

Thanks for all the compliments and advice so far Giar & Blink!

This is really nice so far. How are you planning to do the furring?

Thanks, for the furring I plan to put foam on the fiberglass first to build it up to give the fur shape and to look more like a husky. I am going to use contact cement to put the fur on. I'm going to do it the same way if not similar as I did the furring for the donkey head I made. You can see pics on my website under "donkey head" and the pics are towards the bottom.
