STILL MOVIN' RIGHT ALONG
Though creator Jim Henson passed on some time ago, his creations, the Muppets, live on. The Museum of Television & Radio, 25 W. 52 St. in NYC, is "Celebrating Fifty Years of Jim Henson" by presenting a two-month retrospective of specials featuring Kermit and the gang, Fraggles, and tons of guests.
This week's celebration features "John Denver & the Muppets: A Christmas Together" and "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas." Both take place at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.
The first TV special pairs country singer John Denver with the Muppets and features holiday songs including "Deck the Halls" and "The Twelve Days of Christmas."
In the second special, Kermit the Frog narrates a story about an otter who takes on the Riverbottom Gang.
In addition to the screenings, the Museum will present "Jim Henson: The Muppets Say Cheese - The Photography of John E. Barrett." The exhibit will feature photos of the Muppets and will include the "Kermitage Collection" and Muppet parody posters.
Many more events are scheduled to run through Jan. 26, including rare and unaired gems such as 1962's "Tales of the Tinkerdee" (Dec. 30-Jan. 5) and 1970's long lost "The Great Santa Claus Switch" (Dec. 9-22).
The exhibit cost is included in the museum admission fee of $10, $8 senior citizens and students and $5 age 13 and younger. Admission is free for members.
