Imdb and wikipedia mention that Jim Henson was a guest host as Kermit the Frog for Johnny Carson on April 2, 1979. So he appeared on the Johnny Carson show but not WITH Johnny, but IN PLACE of Johnny. That would be a cool show to see, eh? A whole hour with Kermit (back in the good ol' Henson days) doing the Tonight show, interviewing guests, cracking jokes, making Ed McMahon laugh. I wonder if Kermit did a ten minute opening monologue too.
but was Henson on The Tonight Show like in the 60s when Carson took over or was it only in the 70s when The Muppets were on Carson's Tonight show. Carson took over in 1962.

I would have liked to see that episode that featured all those muppets in that on episode. Seemed like a wild and crazy show for the night.

Now if the muppets could do something like that now a days with the Jay Leno show........

Just viewed a 4 minute clip of Jim Henson on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson on youtube (Just put "Henson on Tonight Show" in the search space). Someone put it there last night. Says it was from 1974. He was holding and talking for Kermit. Kermit sings "It's not easy bein' green" and mentions Joe Raposo at the outset. It's great to see Jim Henson. He is greatly missed so old videos of him are appreciated. Just like it was neat to see a little of Mr. Hooper (and David too, for that matter) in that "What's the name of that song?" clip).
