A couple of things that truly surprise me about the recent box-office developments:

(1) Million Dollar Arm only made $10 million? Really? Mrs. Otter and I were looking forward to seeing that. (But, again, there's the much-needed reminder that Disney has had much bigger disappointments than MMW. *cough*MarsNeedsMoms*cough*)

(2) I never really followed these things before Disney started releasing Muppet movies and I realized how much BoxOfficeMojo tracks this stuff, but I'm astounded that, two months after its release, MMW is still playing in about 200 theatres across North America.

So...where are these theatres located, and HOW SOON CAN WE MOVE THERE?!?

As of May 26, 2014, Muppets Most Wanted has grossed $50,187,136 in North America, and $27,000,000 in other countries, for a worldwide total of $77,187,136,, I dont consider this movie a flop. For me its a moderate succes, and I would see another movie in a couple of years..

It got a pretty big boost for the 3 and 4-day memorial day weekend, here are the results.
May 23–25 27 $195,392 +87.7% 269 +74 $726 $50,382,528 10
May 23–26 26 $263,832 +154% 269 +74 $981 $50,450,968 10
Italics indicate four day weekend.
This is after a weekend of
May 16–18 36 $104,091 -41.2% 195 -90 $534 $50,154,179 9

So MMW has now made a domestic total of $50,450,968. It seems that with a bit of help, MMW might be able to muster past $51 million domestically, but it's still the third highest grossing puppet film of all time, not saying much. Anyways here are MMW's statistics.

Guys...taking over two months to barely break even domestically on a $50,000,000 budget is not good. Yeah, the worldwide total is higher, but I'm willing to bet that the movies' marketing costs are well above the worldwide $77million total. It's all money that Disney needs to recupe. And theaters also take a percentage of a film's profits. Muppets Most Wanted needed to make a LOT more than it has in order to be profitable.

Seriously, you can spin this any way you want. This movie crashed and burned. That's disappointing, because I really liked it, but there's no way to sugarcoat the fact that the movie probably hasn't even gotten close to being profitable yet.

What's the source for these?

let's remember that even some of Henson's own Muppet films weren't box office champs either.
Umm....
TMM: Gross: $65.2 million Budget: $8 million
GMC: Gross: $31.2 million Budget: $14 million
MTM: Gross: $25 million Budget: $8 million

Adjusted in Today's Money
TMM: Gross:$206 million Budget: $26 million
GMC: Gross: $89 million Budget: $41 million
MTM:Gross: $60 million Budget: $19 million
Seems to me like that's quite enough money back, even GMC gave back a hefty load.

This may seem like small potatoes for a lot of people but I'd love to see MMW hang around in theatres long enough to outgross MCC before the home release in August. They're within striking distance now and it'd be very cool to see MMW finish 6th overall on the all-time Muppet movie box office rankings, especially since that would put it ahead of two of the three '90s Muppet films.

(That would also help it eclipse the gross of 2011's Footloose reboot, one of a long line of recent movie musicals that have truly underperformed, particularly in comparison with the two Disney Muppet films.)

I went and saw "Muppets Most Wanted" again in theaters last weekend! That was SO awesome! I went with my brother, who hadn't seen it yet. I'd already seen it of course, so it was fun on the second time around to keep a sharp eye out for characters I had missed previously and even little lines like Dominic and Constantine reprising the whole "I'm number 1 and you're number 2" bit at the end of the movie when they were being led away by the police.
And Gonzo really did get more of a presence than I initially realized. He wasn't utilized as much as some of the other characters in some ways- but he still had a healthy role in the movie and it was gratifying to see him quickly step up to be arrested along with Kermit and Walter and Fozzie at the end of the movie.
It's a shame the movie hasn't done better in theaters- I think it's really quite awesome! My brother and I both enjoyed it and laughed at it.:embarrassed::concern::halo::fanatic::mad::wink::sympathy:
