On the Vincent Price episode of the Muppet Show, theres a cooking tlk show sketch.

What is the name of the purple monster? He eats another muppet, a pot, and then goes for Kermit. Any one know?

"Gorgon Heap" is the name of the Muppet.

It's also the monniker that our good friend here, Mr. Ebersole, has. Hope that clears it up.

Yes, Gorgon Heap is the name...in fact, you can hear Vincent introduce him by that name at the beginning of the sketch - and that was the only time his name was revealed.

But he does have another name. Before the sketch was recorded, the monster was referred to on set as Big V. But after the Vincent Price episode the Gorgon name stuck.

(Most of the "Muppet Geaks" tend to refer to the monster that was on the Muppet Show itself as Gorgon and the pre-Muppet Show less-furry puppet that Gorgon was based on as "Big V".)

There's a thread under Classic Muppets with a list of his appearances. You may have to flip through a few pages.

To add to what DW said, Gorgon was also referred to as, or rather played the role of Fielding the Butler in the Sherlock Holmes sketch on the Joel Grey episode. In this episode, he has cinnamon bun- like ears instead of pinks horns! There are also a few episodes where he has no horns at all.
