I've been doing some research over the last few weeks, and I've discovered that A Muppet Family Christmas first aired in New Zealand on Christmas Day 1988. However, the version that aired was the so-called 1989 NBC re-edit. I still have my off-air copy on VHS tape - it's commercial free and the logo appears in the first shot.

When did Palace Video release the special on VHS?

I can at least narrow down the year to 1989, based on a newspaper clipping that seems to mention Palace Video and Jim Henson in the same page. As for the specific date, the only one I've heard is from a wiki (which are hard to trust) that claims it was released on November 6 1989.
