I don't know about the DVD in America, but my VHS tape has those same lines muted. I'm hoping they are on the DVD here. I have no idea why it was done and it just ruins the scene for me. It's so weird.

Holy crap! Animal's lines were taken out! (assuming your talking about "bad man!" and all that). That stinks! Also, I could've sworn Fozzie says "Turn left" when they get to the fork (but that's just me  ) I may just wanna get the DVDs AND original videos (if possible).

Anyone know what the US disc has?
It's been a while since I've watched it, but I am almost absolutely sure the Region 1 DVD has Animal's lines.

When the DVD first came out, the movie had just finished a run on HBO with the "error" sound mix, so I do remember paying attention to that scene when watching the DVD. And since I don't recall throwing the disc out the window in a bizarre fit of rage, I'm going to assume the audio was intact.

This thread has sure got lots of posts now, when I went to bed there was only about 2 not including my posts.

Thanks for all that info so far.

Its amazing why and how they manage to edit things out, I wish they just left them as they were intended to be, some DVDs here (not muppet ones) of the same movie have been released about 5 times, why not get it right the first time instead of rushing and making people buy the dvd when it first comes out, then having to buy it again.

Don't worry about pan/scan versions of the films, atleast you have them on DVD, we only have 3 muppet and henson movies here on DVD, and video for that matter. The movies are Muppets from Space, Muppets take manhattan and kermit's swamp years. As you can see its not a real good selection, I am just hoping they will release some of what they are releasing in the US here. I could just get the region 1 DVDs but its the principle and it is a bit hard for me to get them from the US, and a bit expensive too.

thanks,
from Paul

In the United States, the 1999 VHS release of Muppets Take Manhattan did have Animal's panting and Kermit's huffing muted, however the 2001 DVD release does not include these audio edits to the film.

Why were they muted? I recall hearing Animal say "Bad Man" but whats the big deal on that and huffing of Kermits? Is it some reason they thought kids would do these things and get in trouble. I remember when Animal used to say that and thought it was funny. Why? Why? Why?

aaaaggh  :grouchy: It annoys me soo much when they edit and cut bits out of movies, you buy a DVD thinking of a certain part of the movie if you havent seem it for a while then its not there, you feel like you are going crazy. They should never subtract items from movies, adding I can live with but nothing should be cut.

I can understand why you are so mad about it. I feel the same about it.
But some times, for legal reasons, theres just no way around it, if there should be a realease. A good example of that are "Muppet family christmas". It's better to get a cut release than no realease at all.

But all the other edits were there don't seem to be any legal reasons for it, the mute in Muppets Take Manhattan, are utterly pointless and it should be a criminal offence to do that

The Kermit and Animal scenes were edited on VHS due to the sexual overtones one could remotely interpret by hearing them. It is a pretty big reach, but something Columbia likely wanted to do. Thankfully though, they were returned to original form for the DVD release.

Exactly, I feel the same way about that but here in Australia we dont have any release at all as ive said many times 3 muppet/henson dvds isnt very much.
