I found a copy of the first issue of this in a local comic store - did it ever run for long or was it a one off?

Harvey Comics?

If I remember correctly, Harvey Comics ran it for awhile and suddenly quit. Anybody else remember this particular comic book?

Marvel

Marvel Comics produced the Muppet Babies comic book as part of their STAR line. They also ran a short-lived Fraggle Rock comic book series. Go to http://www.milehighcomics.com and do a search for either title and you should be able to see all the books in either series.

Thanks...

I thought it was Harvey Comics all these years! My memory serves me well, tho, so I think Harvey Comics did the MB comics in the 1990's. Must've been the 80s when Marvel did it.

we were both right!

It turns out both Marvel and Harvey comics did a Muppet Babies line. Marvel's ran for 37 issues in 1985-1986, but Harvey only had a one-shot issue in 1992.
Here's a picture of the cover.

And for the Marvel comics, go here.

and here.

Incidentally, don't forget that Marvel also did a comic book version of The Muppets Take Manhattan and you can see the covers for that here.

sorry

I'm sorry erniebert1234ss, Harvey actually did 5 issues of Muppet Babies in the early 1990s. I just noticed that there are more covers on MileHighComics's site. Anyway, there you go.

Incidentally, there are other Muppet comics that could be counted. There once was a newspaper Muppets comic strip that ran in the early 1980s. It was done by a dude named Gilchrist and you can find some of his work online.

Also, Muppet comics have been featured in some of the 1980s British Muppet Show annuals, I think.

I could have sworn the MArvel comic lasted longer cause it was Bi-Montly.... I have a few of them, and the artwork is really good, definately in the Muppet Spirit. I think Marie Severin (the artist) said that she was facinated by the Muppet performers (in an interview)

Muppet Babies #5 published by Harvey, Seems to be a reprint of a Marvel comicIssue #15 , since both stories are intact! Harvey is notorious for swiping old art and passing it off as a "new comic!" Just look at their Hanna Barbara line! It was nothing but reprints. At least they Made Back to the Future comics themselves... dispite the fact they just lifted the plots and storylines from the TV cartoon. No wonder they didn't do to well!

Back to the Future!

I actually have the Back to the Future comics and though the first 4 issues are taken straight from the cartoon, Harvey did do a 3 part story that was actually a new story. And it was actually quite good. If it had been done a few years ago, it could have been the storyline for Back to the Future Part 4! :zany:
