Here's a skit I remember when I was a kid.

Mumford was walking down Sesame Street and he spied Oscar practicing some grouch magic. First Oscar took a rag and said some nasty magic words and stinky weeds appeared. Then Oscar took out an empty shoebox, said those words again, and pulled out a smelly sneaker. And finally, Oscar took out a beat up old top hat and said his words again and water started squiritng out of it. He planned to have someone look into the hat when that happened. Then Oscar called everyone over to watch his grouch magic show.

Mumford, who was hiding, was worried that these tricks would give magicians a bad name and he had to do something about this. When Oscar tried the stinky weeds trick, Mumford whispered, Ala Peanut Butter Sandwiches, and instead of weeds, Oscar pulled out pretty flowers. Everyone cheered while Oscar became shocked.

Then Oscar tried the shoebox trick. Mumford whispered his words again and out came a bunch of floating balloons. Everyone was happy while Oscar became surprised and mad.

Finally, Oscar called Bob over to look inside his top hat ready to squirt him. But Mumford whispered his words again and out popped a real live rabbit. Bob and everyone cheered while Oscar left in a confused growl.

Then Bob and the gang met Mumford and asked if he saw Oscar's neat magic show and Mumford smiled while the camera focused on the rabbit Bob was holding.

Hmmm. I don't remember that one, but I do remember one where Mumford turned Oscar into a nice person and turned Gordon into a Grouch.

Another occasion with Mumford and Oscar:

Mumford was wallowing in self-pity because he thought he was losing his magical ability, feeling that "...every last trick in my repetoire has said 'au revoir'. Oscar, however, thought he would make a great "grouch magician", one who performed tricks that didn't work. Oscar even asked Mumford to perform a (non-working) trick right then and there. He reached down into his can and pulled out a metallic garbage can about the size of a Coke can from his kitchen, and asked Mumford to turn it into a big can. The Amazing Mumford said his magic words "to turn this little can into a big can", and we saw the puff of smoke, but the can stayed small. Oscar was so impressed by this non-feat that he asked him to do it again. After the 3rd or 4th time, all we saw was this HUGE trash can, about 8 feet tall and proportionately wider. Mumford was ecstatic that after he kept trying he finally succeeded! He then walked off. Then the giant can rattles a little as a hidden Oscar says "Help. Help! Somebody get me out of this can. Aw rats!" (I think the trick still didn't work quite right; it was Oscar's can, NOT the kitchen can that was made larger.)

That same gargantuan garbage can made an appearance in the center of the street set a few months earlier. It was procured for a different purpose which escapes me, but by the end of the episode Oscar had settled in it and gleefully asked everyone to pitch all the litter in the area into his new home.
