DO NOT just throw them all in a box together and hope for the best. I did that and was making alot of touch ups when they arrived. Also don't do newspaper, the ink could dirty the whites of their eyes. The plastic baggie idea works well, I just did it for a trip from NY to CA, and everythign arrived perfect.
