*Fade into Allistair Cookie's library*

ALLISTAIR COOKIE: Oh, hello there, Allistair Cookie here, welcoming you once again to Monsterpiece Theater... tonight, me really excited to bring to you VERY heart-warming story of per-sa-veer-ance... story of confidence... story of faith... story of rodents... yeah, me bring to you tonight, for your en-ter-tain-ment pleasure "Rat Race"... and now, sit back and enjoy... "Rat Race"...

*Fade into a race track, where four rats are lined up at the starting line, each warming up before a big race; the fifth lane of the track is empty, as that rat is off in the sidelines, with his parents*

MOTHER RAT: ... But son, you HAVE to get out there, you entered this race, and you're here at the track, you can't back out now!

FATHER RAT: What's the matter?

RAT: I'm scared!

MOTHER RAT: Why are you scared?

RAT: What if I make a mistake? And with all those people out there watching me? What if I fall down in the middle of the race? What if I bump into another racer and make him fall down? What if I don't even finish the race?

FATHER RAT: Now listen here son, there's nothing to be scared of...

MOTHER RAT: All you have to do is go out there, and do the best you can.

RAT: But what if I can't do the best I can? What if I lose?

FATHER RAT: Son, winning isn't important.

RAT: Well they sure make a big deal out of it!

FATHER RAT: They make a big deal out of it, but it isn't important.

MOTHER RAT: The important thing is that you go out there, and you just do the best you can... everything will be alright.

RAT: Are you sure?

MOTHER RAT: Of course we're sure...

RACE ANNOUNCER: All racers, please take your positions!

FATHER RAT: You better get out there son, they're about to begin!

MOTHER RAT: We'll be cheering for you!

RAT: You will?

MOTHER RAT: Every step of the way, now hurry up, or you'll miss the race...

*The young rat sighes, as he scurries over to his position in the race track; feeling still very nervous at seeing at how confidence the other rats in the race are. He looks over at his parents in the audience, who simply sit there smiling at him; the young rat gulps a loud gulp, and suddenly has a determined look on his face*

RACE ANNOUNCER: On your mark... get set... GO!

*The rats begin running; the young rat keeps his mind focused on the track in front of him, pacing himself, and breathing in a regular rhythm. Other rats were busy keep their attention focused on the other racers' positions, seeing how far ahead or behind they were everyone else, but not our young hero; he kept his focus on the track ahead, and simply concentrated on finishing the race, while his parents to continued to cheer him on. The other racers continued to keep concentrating on those they were up again, including one racer who so preoccupied with trying to keep up with who he was trailing, that he suddenly tripped and fell down. There was an audible gasp from the audience, and our young hero turned his head to see what happened, finding the other racer face down on the track, while the others ran passed him; the young rat didn't realize he was actually ahead of everyone else, and could have easily continued running and win the race, but he knew that this guy needed help. So saying, he ran back towards the fallen rat, and helped him to his feet.

RAT: Hey, are you alright? You didn't hurt yourself did you?

OTHER RAT: No... *Brushes himself off* no, I'm okay... than... thank you...

RAT: You're welcome.

*The audience began cheering, not because the other rats were just about to cross the finish line, but for the selfless act of helping someone when they needed it*

RAT: Come on, the finish line's just a few feet away, we can do it!

OTHER RAT: But, we already lost, look how far ahead everyone else is!

RAT: Winning isn't all that important, what's important is doing the best you can do.

OTHER RAT: *Shrugs* Alright... let's go...

*With that, the two rats trailed in last, but at least they finished the race irregardless; afterwards, the young rat met up with his parents again*

FATHER RAT: Son? We're very proud of you.

MOTHER RAT: That was a very considerate and thoughtful thing to do to help someone like that, when no one else did... you should feel proud of yourself, too.

RAT: You know something? I do... I feel really good for what I did... and I do feel proud!

FATHER RAT: You don't feel that kind of pride winning a medal, and it feels a lot better, doesn't it?

RAT: It sure does.

*Fade into Allistair Cookie's library*

ALLISTAIR COOKIE: What inspiration that story was, it just shame we couldn't afford to have Jon Lovitz. *Chuckles* So anyway, this Allistair Cookie... until next time, this is Monsterpiece Theater.

Did you write on Word on something else first? RedPiggy posted saying to not do that, 'cause this will happen.

I usually don't for these MT fics, I usually make them up as a go along; T*K*O on the other hand, all the episodes were written in advance on Word, but even then, something like this hasn't ever happened. ><
