Meet the Feebles on DVD?

I know this isn't Muppets or anything but maybe someone can shead some light.

So i was at the dentist today and in the waitting room i was reading a magazine...i know, it's a pretty wierd thing to do in a watting room, but i read a little thing about a review for Meet the Feebles on DVD, it really wasn't a review it just stated what the movie was about and then three stars after it.


I have never seen the flim and no blockbuster in my area carry's it, it's not really my kinda flim but i would still like to see it. I rememer first hearing about this movie from Luke when i first came to the old MC back in 2000.

My friend is supposed to rent it from like an indie video store, but he said the dvd only plays in certain players.. like a certain format that not all players can play.

To say the film is edgy would be an understatement. I enjoyed the film, but it is really extreme. It shows puppets shooting up drugs, gunning down each other, phornicating and other nastiness that I can't really explain here. It's like a rated NC-!7 Muppet Show on acid. I'm sure no one at Henson likes it. I enjoy Peter Jackson's work, but even some of my more alternative friends had a hard time with the film.

Oh to say the film is edgy would be grossly inaccurate. The only thing shocking or edgy about it is how utterly unwatchable it is. Shock does not equal edge in my book. Innovations and new ideas equals edge to me.(Like Sex and Violence or JHH) And Meet The Feebles to me is a horrific unwatchable exercise in low rent crass celluloid sludge.

Interesting to see Peter Jackson go from $3000 puppet porn flicks in the late 80's to $300 million fantasy flicks in the 2000's

I found it interesting, but it is a lot to take in. You can't really peg Peter Jackson and I admire him for that. There are parts of that film that crack me up. But after seeing many films, I believe this to be the most offensive film ever made. It beats out Birth of a Nation IMHO.

I think to say that nobody at Henson doesn't like it is a bit misguided - sure it doesn't do Henson (as a corporate company) any favors because people always mention it in assocation with the Muppets, but creative people and puppeteers there would probably be interested in it - you remember how much Jim was into the darker and alternative style of puppetry.

It didn't offend me, though i found it boring because i thought the storyline was slow. I don't know how anyone (well ... aside from Cory) can say it isn't edgy because to do something like that at the time was nothing but edgy.

I remember hearing about this one, as a fan of obscure indie films and puppetry. Luckily the local video store had a copy. But I tell you, man...I know it was done in the late 80's with no budget out in New Zealand...but dang it just looks cringingly bad.

Also, the 'puppets' look more like decomposed mascot costumes and Chuck E Cheese animatronics than anything approaching even Sam and Friends. Look, I'll admit...I have a huge beef against foul mouthed crass and cheap puppet shows...like Greg the Bunny or Crank Yankers. But still...ack.

Though it is a bit odd me not liking it at the time, as I recall on MC circa 1998 talking about how JHC should go into the super edgy mode with a new show, heh.

But man...that final musical number I cant even repeat here.

I agree that this was in no way Henson quality - be personally i don't think it was that bad. I think if Jim were alive you might have seen Henson do some more of the darker stuff - people kinda think of Jim as squeaky clean but from what i read, he was more passionate about the darker alternative stuff.

I just finished watching this show a couple weeks ago. Definitely the type of movie to leave a bad taste in one's mouth. Unlike deliberately offensive movies like South Park or Monty Python's Meaning of Life, this isn't shock with a point, it's shock for shock. It's offense purely for offense. And ultimately, it really doesn't work. There are a few laughs, the absolutely horrible climactic show number was one of the few "so shocking it's almost funny" parts, but in the end there's very little to redeem watching it.

However, this is a type of film that based on the novelty premise and Peter Jackson's name, it's probably difficult to dissuade anyone from seeing it. No one's warning kept me away from it. So all we can do is warn people: don't expect much--and definitely don't go out of your way to track down a copy. It won't be worth it.

Go rent Frighteners or Bad Taste instead.

I don't know, i'd just really like to see it, I'm interested in it, i mean we all know it has nothing to do with the henson or the muppets at all. When i first heard of it i was offend by the thought of it but that was more then three years ago and ive grown and changed my mind since then. Its just a movie, it won't effect my life. I'd just watch or do something possitve after if it offened me that much. things don't really offend me that much anymore.

Hmm, so about this dvd only playing in certain players? Why? I saw the dvd on Amizon. I don't know if i would buy it yet, i think i'll check a few more video stores and rent it first, I wonder if the DVD would work on a playstation 2 or a computer DVD player?

This would be something funny to play at the next Muppet party I host with my friends from work.

About Jim and a darker side, you will never see Kermit or the muppets do something like this being this edgy. it would ruin them,your not going to see mickey mouse, yogi bear or bugs bunny do something like this either.

i think the darker side of Jim that Luke is talking about is like the story teller or the dark crystal, more spooky creatures and devils N'stuff, we would have seen more stuff like this, not fozzie bear with a gun or anything.
