Over the past 3 days we serviced 65 families, and the claims adjuster is still here today.

Man! I hope all our people, and their people, are okay; including their friends and family, and their friends and family, and THEIR friends and family...

Has anyone heard from Manda D? Didn't she live in Louisiana?
I dunno where she lives, but I've e-mailed her to see if I can find out if she's okay.

Hey Hey Hey!!!!

We survived!!!!!!! Sorry that we haven't been in touch but phones and power were not working around here. We just got power the day before yesterday and cable just got hooked up yesterday. Cell phone service has been hit and miss and VERY aggravating!!!!! You wouldn't believe the gas lines around here. People are very on edge and about ready to pull out their hair. We faired alot better than most folks in the area. I just lost my brand new shed and my dad had some roof damage and some vinyl siding damage. Other than downed power lines and increased gas lines we did good. My son's godparents are from Pascagoula, MS and they stayed with us during the storm. God blessed them also. We visited part of the MS Gulf Coast yesterday and it is terrible. Some places look like a war zone, others look untouched. It is strange how hurricanes work. If you have never lived through one you are very lucky. I am so Thankful that Katrina did not move east any more than it did. I feel bad for everyone that was in the path but if it was even 30 miles more east Mobile would been devistated. Dauphin Island is distroyed and Bayou La Batre is still completely in a wreck. For those folks who have ever visited the Mississippi gulf coast or any of the casino's.....well all of that is No more. There is only one casino that stood in it's place, the Beau Rivage. Others were torn apart and pushed ashore. The Hard Rock casino was due to open this week and it was totally crushed. Nothing will ever be the same down there, EVER. I can't even begin to imagine how life can even go on after what happened in Biloxi and New Orleans. Life will never be the same down here.

Count your blessings that you didn't have to experience it and continue to pray for those who did.

Thanks to everyone for your concern and your prayers. Kevin I will try to call you tonight.

God Bless,
Angela

WHEW! GOOD!! As long as you're okay, that's what we worried about.

Wish we had a good comprehensive list of all the members from that region to try to contact them to be sure we're all okay.

Gas prices here peaked to right at $4 (I told someone I bet we'd see it hit the $5 mark before middle of the month, and I think some places have).

Here's what I posted about in another forum:
==================
Allstate called down to see if any of us would stay in the office over the weekend and keep it open for the claims adjusters to come in and write checks. I volunteered and gave up my whole Labor Day weekend.

Over all, a $2000 check was made payable to each of 65 families in 3 days to help with their extended living expenses.

I heard horror stories from people who were there, knew someone that was, and just the over-all knowledge of what's happened to people there.

One guy about my age and his father came in with two little girls. Apparently, they were able to flee and get up here to Memphis after the flood waters rushed their house, and the two of them grabbed the little girls whose mother (the guy's sister) and father were washed away, and they don't know anything. Apparently, the same thing happened to his wife and his mother, too.

I also heard about a high school where folks went for refuge from the storm, but once the levee broke and flooded the school, 300 people drowned. That's just what I heard, though; haven't seen anything about it on the news.

Also, they said some areas aren't being shown on the news because there's too many dead bodies just floating around down there, and in some areas they think the alligators may get in to some of the bodies. It was grotesque to hear about, let alone imagine.

People up here from the hurricane are so thankful, and surprisingly strong. They are all keeping a strong front at least in public.

I feel so sorry for people, and wish with all my heart and soul I could turn back the sands of time and know a way to keep all this from happening because, if I could, I would.

Whether you're religious or not, at least pretend to be because these people need prayer for strength, for help, for the loss of loved ones.

I live! A fact for which I am grateful. Yes, I live in New Orleans...In fact, Iam a native of Covington, which breifly made it on the weather channel, I believe. There's a lot of devestation in my neighborhood; many trees are down, (I have a few neighbors whose homes have trees on or IN them), but my own home is all right. It'll be a while 'till we get electricity, but we currently have a generator for certain necessities. (The computer's the best way to get news right now.)
For the hurricane itself, we had evacuated to Selma, Alabama, and just returned home Sunday. I have friends who live in New Orleans, or very near it, and some of them I haven't heard from yet. There's many people, some of whom were in other areas greatly affected by Katrina, that I have heard noting from yet. Many of my closest friends have left Louisiana and are not coming back. I may never see them again.
There's a picture they're showing, of U.S. Marshalls around a makeshift grave in New Orleans. The epitaph says: "Here lies Vera. GOD HELP US." No truer words. My life will never be the same again, but there are so many others far more drastically affected than I am. There's just no real way to fully comprehend this tragedy. I have seen devestation from hurricanes before, but it weas NOTHING liker this.
That being said, I am touched by the concern some of you showed for me, especially given my lack of contact with this place. Thank you for your prayers, and PLEASE, continue to pray for New Ortleans and the other areas so drastically affected by this monstrous storm. This devestation is going to take so long for these areas to get over....
