Mascot Head Lenses

Hey, i'm starting to build a Bear mascot head to replace a really shabby one that was donated to my puppetry club!

i know what to use to actually build the head, but i'd rather not use Chicken Wire, or anything like that...

My sister is a character performer at Disney World right now and she says that if you see through most eyes from lenses...

what kind of lenses should I use and where would i get them?

Provided there's enough space inside the head to cause shadow, I'd say anything clear will work cause the inside of the head will look black anyway.
Any mascot's opening on the face, for the person to see out of, will appear black, provided it's fairly small in relation to the size of the head and there's no direct bright light into it.

If you're looking for a mesh fabric that will hide the performer, I just did a project using black Crepon that I got from Jo-Ann Fabrics. My head is in the dorsal fin in this picture:

If you're looking for large plastic lenses, what I used in this project were the lenses of two outdoor thermometers. Other lenses I considered using were large prop magnifying glasses (they are available up to 5 1/2" diameter), clock lenses, or tap lights (my local Goodwill has a BUNCH of them for dirt cheap).

Melonpool — another MC user — has had success dremelling out eye shapes from plastic outdoor light domes that you can purchase at Home Depot or Lowes.

Of course, if you're looking for both you can use the plastic lenses and make the pupils out of the mesh fabric.
