Can someone guide me to the end all and be all of Marionette sites/forums. Or, at least point me towards several really good ones.

And yes, I searched the term "marionette". Learned a lot of cool unrelated info. But no relevant results.

Puppets and Stuff is a great forum/site run by Shawn Sorrell who specializes in building and performing with marionettes. There are a bunch of nice people there who I'm sure will be willing to help you out with any info you might need.

Good luck!

Thank you for the link, Iokitek. Actually think I came across it before in all that "cool unrelated info" (something bout the name being tribute to H.R. Puf-N-Stuf?).

Anyhow, checkin' it out now.

The Harlequin Puppet Theatre has an excellent backstage section dealing with a number of marionette issues (construction, manipulation, and various controls). Chris Somerville, who currently runs the theatre, and his late partner Eric Brammall who founded the theatre wrote an excellent book called Expert Puppet Technique, which is currently out of print but puppetbooks.co.uk may have a second hand copy. This is one of the few books that deals with maniuplation in detail, and was written by two master manipulators.

Muchas Gracias, James!!

Some very interesting info on mechanics (akin to the trick marionettes section from Iokitek's url). BTW, I enjoyed reading his "story" as well. And best of all, I found some really great quality websites (both for marionettes & puppetry in general) thru his links page. And, eventually through their links pages as well.

Although there was a bit of 404 sadness in my travels. *Sigh* Nothing like getting all psyched up by a link's description blurb before realizing that it's expiration date has passed or it's been assimilated into some shady websearch site.

But still found lots of gems in there. Including an excellent page dealing with animatronics (click/saved that baby for a future date).

edit: hmm...can't seem to edit post #3. I guess there limits on edits in these forums?? Anyway I had just wanted to update that post (now that I've visited the site) to say that it's a very in-depth pupppetry resource. Lots of useful information. And it led me to many other helpful marionette sites as well. Thanks again Iokitek for sharing.
