I know there's a hand in there, but the finger and mechanism placement baffles me for some reason. Could y'all help me out and give me some opinions?

He seems to have his back towards the audience, so the front of the puppet is his palm. I'd say the puppet's left hand is his ring finger and his pinky is folded up inside.
Also appears the mouth is operated with his free left hand because you can see his sleeve twitch where his arm is bent everytime the mouth moves.
