this has probably already been discussed, but Why isn't there a 50th Anniversary Special Edition of The Muppets Take Manhattan?

It's quite simple really, Disney doesn't own the rights to the DVD, Sony does. The same is said for MFS and KSY.

When Disney bought the Muppets from Henson they also got Henson's stakes in all the Muppet films and productions. However many productions were (and some still are) split between companies. Disney bought "The Muppet Movie" and "Great Muppet Caper" from Sony (giving them full ownership of the two films). Disney was the co-owners of "Christmas Carol" and "Treasure Island" with Henson (and getting Henson's part now gave them 100% ownership). They did not opt to by "The Muppets Take Manhattan", "Muppets From Space", and "Kermit's Swamp Years" at that time. Maybe someday they will. If any re-release of those films are released it would require a partnership between the two companies.

The first two movies never were owned by Sony. Sony only had the video rights from 1998-2004 (Sony didn't actually release them on video untill 1999). Those two movies were originally owned by ITC, then Jim Henson bought the rights to those, and now Disney owns the rights.

I've read reviews of the special edition releases, and there is a small note that points out that Columbia plans on releasing a three pack of MTM, MFS, and KSY in 2006, but it would most likely not include any additional features from the current releases.

Post-Review Note: If you're wondering why The Muppets Take Manhattan and Muppets From Space are left out of this 50th Anniversary group, it is because Columbia TriStar Home Video (CTHV) has retained rights to those two films, which were produced by TriStar Pictures and Columbia Pictures, respectively. Unlike the first two Muppet films, which were independently produced and merely distributed by Columbia, these two will remain in the Sony library unless Disney (or another studio) purchases the rights. In related news, on January 31, 2006, CTHV will release The Muppets Movie Collection, a three-film box set containing The Muppets Take Manhattan, Muppets From Space, and the 2002 direct-to-video film Kermit's Swamp Years. Suggested retail price is a low $23.96, making the discounted Amazon preorder under $17. Of course, the set is not likely to include anything new or different from the currently in-print and bargain-bin-priced Manhattan, Space, and Swamp Years discs.

They already did, I saw the "2-pack" which is a cardboard box with the 3 existing DVDs in it already in stores.
