Live-action Garfield in theaters this Christmas

Well, I think they should have the characteristics that I mentioned with John Lovitz and Woody.

I'm still at a loss as to the perfect casting, something I need to mull over.

I can really see a (can't think of her name right now, she was the voice of Jane in Tarzan and in Good Will Hunting) in the role of Liz. Smart and sharp tongued!

wow, geez now that we won't have the reg./ orig. voice of garfield (lorenzo) i feel like i'd walk into the movie already dissapointed (sorry i just found this thread so i may be behind). especially since i was addicted to that garfield and friends series so many years ago (ok, maybe not SO many years ago but still)....

Jon needs to be played by a complete dork, like in the comic. He can't be a hunk.

Brad pit? I don't think he could do a Garfield movie, that's not the kinda movies he does. I think i was thinking Matt Perry...or dare i say it what do you think of David Arrcket(sp)he seems like a jon type, radionate hit the nail on the head, Jon's not some hot super star, he just thinks he is, i couldn't see any of the actors you listen to play the part of Jon if they want a good movie, this is just my opintion.

david arquette is definitely to 'zany', well i guess he has to much personality to play jon. i can't really say who would be a good pick...

The funny thing is NONE of us get to pick and they will get someone dumb to play the part...if they haven't already with what Wolfy had found out.

I think David Arquette would be a good choice. If he's a good enough actor, he could pull off that Jon bit. And, he looks like a bit of a geek like Jon. (no offense)

David could pull it off...he's a pretty goofy person, and I would think that his persona might not "overwhelm" the character of Jon.

The lady that radionate was thinking of is Minnie Driver. She was the voice of Jane in the Tarzan cartoon that Disney put out. Was this the one you were thinking of?

But as Zack has said, the parts are already cast...

Brecken Myer for Jon, and Jennifer Love Hewitt for Liz.

Basically I was dreaming as to what people COULD have played the parts, and SO much better...

Oh, well, we all can dream, right?

Yeah, but for me, Velma was a little too attractive.... creeped me the heck out. I almost didn't see the movie because of Sarah Michelle Gellar (I hate Buffy, no more on that) and Fred seemed too much like Oswald from Drew Carey. But Mathew Lillard WAS Shaggy. He talked like him, he looked like him, he WAS him. I was skeptical at first though, Screetch from Saved by the Bell was originally slated to be Shaggy (I could see it).

But Jennifer Love Hewitt as Liz? That's TOTALLY wrong. That's like casting Robin Willaims as Donkey Kong. It's that kind of casting that got as Inspector Ferris Bueller Gadget and Nell Sex in the City Fenwick. No. And they really should get a more folksy Jon. This guy is too Hollywopod, and not Muncie Indiana enough. I thought maybe Anthony Clkark from Yes Dear (He's very Jon like, but he has a date).

I mean, Jon spends Saturday nights playing Polka and throwing littlew Sardines at dart boards. I don't see Inside Schwartz doing this.

Speaking of "Inspector Gadget," have you seen that they are putting out the sequel?

French Stewart, who played "Harry" on "Third Rock from the Sun" on NBC is starring as the new "Gadget" because Matthew Broderick was busy with "The Producers" and "The Music Man" on Broadway, then did "The Music Man" for Disney.

I didn't watch the Disney version of "Music Man." To me, no one could really take the place of Robert Preston, although Eric McCormic could give it a good run for it's money (he was the one who first did "MM" on Broadway this past season, then Broderick took over).

I take it that Nell Fenwick was done by Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew's wife? No, I can't see her in that part. Glad I never saw the "Rocky and Bullwinkle" movie...don't think I'd want to have my heart broken like that! Tell me, did they get Danny DeVito for the part of Boris? He would have been great...

"REMAKES" is something my oldest son and I play all the time when we are watching movies, especially older ones on TCM or FMC (we don't watch AMC anymore, it's gotten really bad). We try and guess who we think would be good in certain parts, and even if they could DO such movies today, or how they would have to update them or modernize them.

We were doing that with "Pillowtalk" the other night. Do you know we couldn't think of anyone who could really take the virginal place of a great singer like Doris Day? Today's "golden girl" singers are all pretty ... well, another word for "trampy" comes to mind, to say the least!

But we have a great time playing the "remake" game...and there are days when there is NO ONE who could take the place of the original player on the original movie...

Just like no one can really take the place of the cartoon characters of the great shows we grew up with, or the voices of the wonderful Muppets we have known, even though they (Muppets, I mean) do a pretty good job trying to be accurate. The cartoon people, for some reason, don't really want to be accurate, do they...?
