Letter "U" animation

Animated sketch with the letter U.

A man is standing near a large letter U, and says it's for small/short words, big/long words like University (somehow sounded like he struggled to say that).

Then he jumps into the center of the U and says its for "in-between words" such as "Ukelele" (did he not pronounce the final e in the word?). He played a note and a single chord on such an instrument, then jumped out of the letter as if he was forced, perhaps, and uttered an "ouphhh" as he hit the ground.

The next scene shows him at night, looking at the stars through a telescope. "Without the letter U, there would be no, Universe..." (kind of a bold statement by any measure, don't you think?) "or..." He is then scanning the ground with a machine that looks remarkably similar to a vacuum cleaner, but is presumed to be a metal detector. It makes a series of soft clicking sounds as he pushes it. He then suddenly picks up the device to his side and exclaims "Uranium!"

Anyone remember the rest of this animation?

(horn fanfare - professor stands next to a sheet-covered object, and proceeds to lift the sheet to reveal a big green U)

A salute to the letter U.

(the sheet engulfs him and he crawls out of it - the U shifts size as he talks)

Useful for words beginning with U. Little words, such as USE, big words such as UNIVERSITY, and in-between words, such as UKELELE!

(he looks through a telescope at night ... )

Without the letter U, there would be no UNIVERSE.

(... and walks around with a metal detector ...)

Or ... URANIUM!

(... and removes the U from UNITS ...)

Without the letter U, UNITS would be ... NITS?

(... and runs by wearing a barrel ... )

Policemen would have no UNIFORMS!

(... and removes the U from I.O.U. ...)

And nothing would be USEFUL! For instance, whoever heard of an I.O.?

(... and finally places the U on a pedestal and decks it with flowers)

So here's to you, U. You've earned your place in the alphabet, and so to you, U, for your UNIQUE, UNIVERSAL USABILITY, we say, thank you, U!

(proceeds to kiss it, but it leans over and bonks him on the head, irritating him)

Anybody wanna buy a USED U?

Yeah, but it's not on #871. It's on #1396.

Thanks

Thanks, Boober Gorg, for your transcription.

One more thing about that metal detector scene. While I still say the device looked more like a Hoover Upright than anything else, I'm wondering if that was really a radiation detector, since Uranium is, after all, radioactive. The clicks were a bit louder than your average Geiger counter, however. As for "Without the letter 'U' there would be no Uranium" -- I can just hear some opponent of nuclear power saying "And that would be a problem because...?"

Right; I was thinking of the "Q" cartoon instead. Thanks for clearing that up.
