Music rights are music rights. What it comes down to is the cost of how much it will be for TV and home media.

"If you go to Muppet Central there's numerous references and links there that there's no rights issues on Season 4 and 5 and Disney keeps promising they're coming but continues to delay. They even did a D23 announcement a few years ago. The clearances happened because of the backlash over Season 1 and even then Henson released some of those uncut through Time Life. I remember reading Disney went back and got those 6 cuts cleared after the backlash proved there was a market for it. Disney doesn't seem to care about pushes. They've promised several release dates for season 4 only to not release it. They were going to tie it in with the 2 big feature films but didn't. Now the latest word is they don't want these out now because it would confuse people with the new show."

So, according to Anthony DiPaola, all the rights for the last 2 seasons have been cleared!

Whatever their "New" show is....Seasons 4 and 5 are 100x better.

Any muppets before Jim Henson's death kills anything post Henson's death and I was born in the 90s and I see how The Muppet Show still holds up ....that Star Wars episode alone is timeless.

Even if the rights are cleared, I doubt Disney will even bother releasing those last two seasons.

But hey, if they do..... Cool! Better late than never.

I think they will bother releasing the last two seasons, on DVD or digital download or streaming, like Debbie McClellan said at DragonCon 2015. She's right.

But I will admit and agree that it may be better late than never.

I believe they WILL release them, but not on DVD. I think they're going to stick to digital. Keep in mind, that was 3 years ago.

Yeah, they're probably bound to go straight to Amazon or something.
