On the "I want some opinions" thread, some of us were discussing how so many Sesame Characters share their head with Guy Smiley. Though the list goes on to include rare, obscure, or even one time only background characters.

Obviously, with a show like Sesame Street, we have lots of need for background characters who wind up becoming popular enough to stand alone.

Most human Muppets are made from other's heads or design. Including

Mumford and the Count

Guy Smiley, Don Music, Spaceship Surprise captain, Prince Charming

Little Jerry, Sherlock Hemlock

Fat Blue, Simon Soundman, Little Chrissy

The list goes on.

I feel that the reason why they use "anything Muppets" is not to save costs (though it does) but to keep with the artistic stylization of the Sesame Street Muppets.

God, I remember Sherlock Hemlock. He was so funny! I didn't understand why his name was funny until much later but...

All of the Twiddlebugs were Anything Muppets too (except with those weird eyestalks attached to the tops of their heads).

Cowboy X
Forgetful Jones

Harvey Kneeslapper

Marty

Here are some more Muppets who share the same head with Guy Smiley:

The Pied Piper

Here are some Muppets who have the lavender head:

Herbert Birdsfoot
Polly Darton

Here are some more Muppets with the pointy green head:

Here are some Muppets with the tall orange head:

And here are some more Muppets with the squat blue head:

I've also noticed that they use little AMs (pink, purple, or orange) for the following Muppets:

The Seven Dwarfs
The Genie of the Toothpaste
The Elves (from The Elves and the Shoemaker)

And they use AMs with suitable features (fur, tails, ears, antennae, etc.) for the following Muppets:

The Beetles
The Miami Mice
The Tortoise and the Hare
Captain Vegetable
Geefle
Gonk
Sammy the Snake

That's about it!

I love how in the first episodes, they are still considered "Anything People" who actually are featureless and can be anything they want. "Today I want to be a little girl. Can you give me some eyes and hair please?"

Those guys looked SCARY BTW. Anybody knows "I Am A Fine Musician" which aired in some 1969 Noggin episode? Creepy! No clothes, just weird stripes and spots on their bodies. No hair. And the trombone guy - just that orange head with eyes! Eeeep!

what about for the lavender head Count and Mumford? and Chris Columbus was a different purple than those other ones. There are also two Fat Blue puppets. I watched the Guy Smiley lumberjack skit and when the forest becomes a city there is one Fat Blue puppet being used for an old lady and another being used for a business man.
