Zoe's a strange one. I remember when the character premired, she was... well.. very odd. She said a LOT of things that were out of left field and she seemed... well... looney. I distinctly remember a skit where Big Bird said something about "Today's shows is brought to you by the letters M and G, Zoe!" (or something like that), and for the next several skits, she was laughing about how it sounded like he said "Lemon cheese Zoe!" That... seemed... odd.
.
Maybe that was it, she seems slightly ditzy to me (or did and even if she's changed I haven't really noticed it.)

As a puppet fan in general, I tend to like more complicated looking characters like Zoe, and Hoots, and the like. I HATED when they used homunculus Zoe... the puppet's subtlety and artistry was stripped.

I personally hate how the first AM's looked. The spotty placement of the eyes and nose... the amateurish look... Thankfully, they were punched up in the second and third season following. I'm really loving the magenta colored one with a different shaped head they use now.

It's Zoe's laugh that's always bothered me. And I would agree that when Zoe debuted she was random and kind of all over the place. I think Elmo is more annoying when paired with her.

Count me in for the anti-Baby Bear team. The way he talks has ALWAYS bothered me.

I never liked Humphrey -- the repeating what everyone said annoyed me, and when he and Ingrid would gush about how "smart" Natasha was when all she did was sit there and spit, I thought it was the dumbest thing. So I guess I never liked Natasha much, either.

I have to disagree, I kind of like the original AMs, only because I actually like seeing the evolution and improvements of the puppets during those early years: it shows that even geniuses like Jim, with Don Sahlin, Kermit Love, and John Lovelady were learning new things as they experimented.

But actually, I do have to admit that a lot of the original characters are now looking a little too simplistic compared to newer characters... but there is ONE thing though... with Abby, that was intentional; she wasn't meant to look like a traditional Muppet, because she wasn't, she was a newcomer from a different "world", so-to-speak. However, there are times when they do a bit of a 180 degree turn... like this Walter for the new movie? That is the most generic looking puppet I've ever seen on screen, he almost looks like one of those poorly made, hardly flexible puppets you can buy at Christian bookstores, and it makes me think... was that the best they could do?

I don't mind the original puppets looking simplistic. A puppet isn't a doll for display, it's an interactive instrument. The look of a puppet is only half the work; the other half is the performance. A puppet looking too complex might distract from the performance.

I beg to differ

And that's just one example...

Henson has always striven to blur the lines of reality with greater puppetry advancements. And sure, nothing beats a simple puppet, but simple can also be complex in its own right!

She seems to be a character similar to Alice... she's basically introduced to talk specifically to kids who are getting a new baby sibling in their lives. They seem to have covered that purpose years ago... now she's there mainly because if she wasn't there, people would wonder "what the heck happened to baby bear's sister?" Though again, I LOVED the birthday cake episode, and she plays a major role in it.

Meanwhile, other than a parade float 2 years ago, when was the last time we even saw or mentioned Alice in the show? I forsee Curly being completely marginalized from the cast the same way.
