least favorite things about the best DVDs

what are your least favorite things about the best DVDs that are availible?

here are some of my least favorites:

Rocky & Bullwinkle season sets: for both, I wish that the original title would be shown. for the first season, i wish that the first season opening and closing were included instead of the second season ones (although the opening an dclosing from the first season is included on the episodes on the last disc of season 2).

SCTV: I wish that SCTV would have gotten the rights to all of the music. besides this, i wish that the unused great White north segments would have been included (rick moranis and dave thomas would improvise several sketches in a row and use the best ones).

Looney Tunes Golden Collections: for both of them, I wish that some of the cartoons made between 1965 and 1969 were included. besides this, I wish that black and white cartoons were included on vol. 1 (I know that some were included as features, and there should have been at least 1 black and white cartoon on the porky and daffy disc), and that some speedy gonzoles cartoons were on vol. 2.

The Simpsons: I wish that all of the tracy ullman shorts were on the first season set (or spread over all of the sets). I also wish that deleted scenes would have been included on evey set. and what's the deal with only one episode (col. homer) having a fact track?

UHF: I didn't really like the way that weird al yankovic hosted the deleted scenes. he kept talking badly about them (was he just joking?), mentioned that there were other deleted scenes (both here and in the commentary), and fast-fowarded through some scenes. there were also a few clip montages of deleted scenes. it would have been better if these scenes could have been shown individually and with commentary.

Pete & Pete: season 1: i wish that the specials were shown with their original opening sequences, instead of the show opening that replaced them when they were shown after the series was produced.

Greg the Bunny: I wish that the episode SK 2.0 had either commentary or included deleted scenes.

Back to The Future: I wish that footage of the actor who was originally cast as marty was shown.

What's The name Of That Song?: I wish that more classic bonus segments were included.

Weird Al yankovic: the ultimate video collection: I wish there was commentary on the music videos.

what are your favorite DVD releases that could have been better?

Well, I have a few gripes:

1) Muppet Treasure Island, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Matilda: Special Edition are all only in pan-and-scan. I bought them and watched them, simply because they're fine films, but the p&s process butchers the films.

2) All the Fraggle Rock DVDs are loaded with "kiddie" features, as opposed to the behind-the-scenes footage we fans want.

3) The MacGyver DVDs have no features, whch bugs the living **** out of me.

One thing I dislike is that the title logo is changed so that it no longer says "starring Jim Hensons Muppets", but I guess they had to do that (if Hit won't make a deal to include kermit in Emmit Otters Jug-Band Christmas and The Christmas Toy, then why would they make a deal to keep the muppet name in the credits?). of course, not all of the features are kiddie, and the second and third DVDs had behind-the-scenes footage (clips from down at fraggle rock).

well, I was mainly reffering to DVDs that have special features, and lots of spectacular features. otherwise i would have listed things about the best of the muppet show DVDs and the great muppet caper DVD.

I gotta agree with Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island not being in widescreen Why would you release PART of a movie?

I hate how the Muppet Family Christmas DVD is edited. I hate the editing of anything

And something most people probably don't care about but I hate having to change discs in the middle of one of the Lord of the Rings Extended Edtitions.

Here's something else that just bugs the heck outta me.

On the Beast Wars season 1 set, it doesn't have the full opening theme, it's a shortened version. Now I'm extremely happy to have my favorite cartoon show on DVD but the shortened season 1 opening bugs me. Maybe I'm still not used to it after watching Beast Wars for many many years prior to buying the DVD set. Fortunatley seasons 2 and 3 both have original full openings

Same here! And they only did just because the second season opening/closing is Jay Ward's favorite. Personally, I like the "Bullwinkle Show" opening because that's the one I'm accustomed too.

Anyway, my disappointments on the Bewitched DVD are the special features. Entitled "Featurette: Magic Unveiled" and "Blooper Reel: Magic and Mishaps", I ACTUALLY expected behind-the-scenes footage, and a REAL blooper reel. Instead, the "Featurette" was a digest version of the "E! True Hollywood Story: Bewitched". And the "blooper reel" was showing clips of episodes that weren't consistant (i.e. Samantha and Darrin looking out the back window to see the front lawn, equipment shadows showing, the fact that the telephone is in both the kitchen and the living room.) Another thing I disliked about it is the puny "box" it came in. Not like the boxes and the packaging that the Rocky and Bullwinkle DVD's came in.

THREE'S COMPANY SEASON FOUR: I was sure that they would have included the pilot to "The Ropers" or an episode or two from that series. They could've included all of the episodes as a bonus disc and fans would have been THRILLED. In general, though, the features for all of the season boxes so far have been wonderful.

I agree with the Weird Al Video Collection assessment. He should've done commentary for them, but I rather liked the commentary and deleted stuff on UHF!

JOHNNY CARSON ULTIMATE COLLECTION: Excellent overall, but the menus run very long. You can skip them, though. Just like Sesame Street, there are too many of these to release a complete set, but you'd think that some TV station somewhere should be playing them all one by one, letting us decide which ones we want to keep, right???

(Can't wait for us to do this with TMS season one box!)

-Little Shop of Horrors: no original ending
-Harry Potter and the Sorcer's Stone: just the fact that you have to play all those games to get to those doggone deleted scenes

If a DVD really bothers you, its possible to reauthor it sometimes if you have the right skills, dvd burner and proper software. You could have it so just the main movie is on a disc and plays straight up with no menus and choose what audio/subtitle options are on there too. You could also add special features at the end that are hard to access from the original disc like if you have to play a game to see something, easter eggs etc. Theres lots of info online to see how to tinker with discs or simply redoe them from scratch.

No DVD's actually have closed-captions. They're subtitles you can turn on and off on the disc, and yes Cat in the Hat has them.
