My daughter was watching the previews of other Sesame Street DVD's section on her new Elmo's World DVD, and I didn't realize how good
Learning About Letters and Learning About Numbers look!

Learning About Letters' preview featured Ernie and Bert's "La La La" from 1971 and

Learning about Numbers' preview featured The Henson King of Eight from 1970 and Martian Girl Number 9 from 1971!

Does ANYONE have any info on what's on these shows and whether they're worth a purhcase?? Classic skits aplenty!

If the DVD's are anything like the VHS tapes I got, then they might be of interest oto you.
Learning About Letters is when a few members of the gang like Luis, Big Bird, Telly, and Buster the Horse get together to showcase things starting with every letter. Snuffy leaves at the beginning to get an apple for the letter A, only to return at the end and ask if they can do the whole thing over for him.
Of note are the classic C is for Cookie, and not the bleh operatic version, Luis getting his hands sticky with Irvine's icky ice cream cone, the song "La, la, la", and the film segment where the camera zooms in on different signs and posts from around town on each and every letter. My memory's a little fuzzy on these two.
Learning About Numbers features Big Bird and the Count hosting a number-based talk show. Not sure what's featured for 1, 2, nor 3, nor 4. But the Count leaves just before the number 5, and the classic sketch where the Count hires Ernie to answer his phone is featured for this number. Then we move on to the animated song "6 Soccer Socks", before Big Bird finally gets through to Ernie. The sketch where the Count's an elevator operator at Reporter Kermit's news building is next, followed by the King of 8, Martian Beauty, and the finale where the Count counts 20 honks from the Honkers.
Hope this helps, and have a good day.

PS: You might want to check out the video The Alphabet Game which has the classic songs "Dee, dee, dee", "The Q Question Song", "The Sound of the Letter S", and the cartoon Wanda the Witch.
