For the next project I am working on I am going to use vinyl as the skin of the puppet and I was wondering if using 1/2 foam would be good enough to use or would it lose it's form under the weight of the vinyl?

I've been looking at the L200 and the 1/2 thickness of that isn't too expensive, do you think it would be better to use because of the way it can hold structure/being lighter?

I would suppose if I re-inforced the regular foam it would be ok, but what are your opinons?

L200 should be fine in theory, but it really depends on a variety of factors. I use sheets that are approximately 1/2" thick all the time for puppet bodies without any problems, although I do reinforce it with dress maker's boning.

Propologist and I used L200 for our latest puppet and it's holding its shape perfectly.

One thing that I have noticed is very important to pay attention to the angle you the foam at. Unless you are deliberately wanting to make a bevel cut or something like that be sure that you cut the foam with a blade at a 90 degree angle from the foam.

Band saws work really well for cutting L200, just make sure that the teeth of the blade are small enough that you get a smooth cut.

Thanks for all the info! I'm going to do a little test, but with the info supplied I think I'm going to use less of it. I like the dress makers boning idea, and I'm going to test that out a bit.

Thanks again
