I'm confused. Since when do girls in the Sesame Street age target audience dress themselves?

I'm sure there are bad parents who would dress their children inappropriately just like there are bad parents intent on spoiling anything fun on Sesame Street. :stick_out_tongue:

What he did was alleged. He was never convicted of it, and honestly, it's really hard to tell if celebrities actually DO these things, or some greedy spotlight hog is trying to frame them. I tend to give people in that situation the benefit of the doubt now until it had been proven that they pulled such acts. Look what happened with Michael Jackson. Even I believed it for the longest time. Besides, I absolutely hate the culture's attitude towards sports heroes. We put these people on pedestals and then when someone does something stupid, we treat them as if they're monsters. You can't build a Frankenstein and then chase him with pitchforks when he goes wrong.
Well with the Bryant case, it was well beyond established that Kobe's only crime was infidelity and cheating on his wife. The woman in question had concocted a scheme with her boyfriend the whole scheme, which was pretty much exhaustively proven. Not that celebs don't do such bad things.

With Pee Wee, to me that's a real tragedy. Pee Wee Herman was one of the most recognizable and best things about the 80's, yet because of one private incident that wasn't even really an incident his whole life and career was destroyed.

I liked it. Elmo was even singing parts of the song. Who's not to say that kids won't sing the song? I loved it! It was more than what they do when they get a singer on. It was totally fun! What's wrong with some clevage being shown? Both me and my mom think that kids see that much clevage when their with their moms. What's so bad about Katy Perry? I would say nothing. She's doing songs that most female singers haven't thought do sing. She's a trailbrailzer, like Mariah Carey.

I'm not a Katie Perry fan, but her songs are catchy. My kids are a bit old for Sesame Street, but I am a life-long fan although I don't care too much for the recent version.

I think it would have been better if they'd left out the leg shots, then it would have been okay. She's a cute girl and obviously is enjoying herself, the song was harmless (not very original or creative, but harmless all the same). I did notice immediately that her breast didn't seem as big as in other press I've seen of hers, plus I watcher her on SNL the other night and they totally played it up.

Sesame Street is an international institution. Henson has always been provocative and walking a very tight line - that's why I love the Muppets. When I was a kid Grover told Madeline Khan that she had soft breasts in the "Sing Like I Sing" skit.

hey gang,

I gotta say I back SW on this decision. I like breasts as much as the next guy but that dress was, in my opinion, a bit too revealing for a show directed at 3-5 year olds.

We're not talking about politico groups here. We're not talking about network censors. We are talking about parents who work hard to raise their kids as best they can and that's hard enough in this day and age. As a parent, I personally would have felt very disappointed if the one place I knew was kinda safe and kid-friendly for my daughter, wasn't as kid-friendly as I've always known it.
I'm a guy and this expresses my feelings exactly.

The song itself is great! Just have Katy do the bit again in less "skanty" clothes to please the parents and everyone will be happy I'd say
This is my opinion... the song was fine, but her outfit was too risque for a program that's aimed at preschoolers. It's a judgement call that, really, ought to have been made before the cameras started rolling.

The perfect compromise would be to re-shoot the video with a more modest outfit.

So...what exactly was the problem with that video?
Katy looked like Tinker Bell with a bit too much exposure and parents went into an uproar. And besides, what happened to private screenings to children for honest feedback? Do they not do that anymore?

I think Katy and Elmo are incredibly cute together in this video. I see nothing wrong with it. That's just my opinion, though.

HIGH FIVE!

Seriously. To think this will turn your kid into some sort of pervert or **** is the most offensive thing about this. And really... remember 5 years ago when 3 year olds were wearing Playboy bunny shirts, and bumping and grinding to all sorts of music and NO ONE batted an eye? That was the time to be outraged.

Seriously, I see NO social responsibility in pulling this segment. I only see kow towing and bowing down to a bunch of disorganized internet web whines, quite possibly from people who spend all their free time whining about videos for the sake of saying "Where's the imaginary outrage and the greedy corrupt wackos that pretend to make us feel safe?" They're doing this ONLY to prevent massive groups from writing letters to no body who really cares who only react because they're afraid of bad press. Imagine if SW bowed down this fast for having an integrated neighborhood in 1969. Besides, the freakin' ladybugs that were crawling on Elmo on today's episode looked EXACTLY like nips and no one filled up switch boards.

And we all have to get real here... SW made her wear a body stocking that not only covered her up, but even made it appear that she's not well endowed as it were. I'm pretty sure they DID indeed have screenings and debated among the crew saying "You think this is appropriate?" "I don't see all that wrong with it. She's wearing basically a flesh toned suit underneath there." No one complained then, no one spoke up, they all felt the four most naughty bits were covered up (not saying what they were). Least she wasn't wearing low rise jeans or pants down to the ankles (which I don't understand at all). Nor did she even show her belly button. Jasmine from Aladdin showed a LOT more, and cartoon or otherwise they DO make Jasmine costumes.

What I want to know is how many actual complaints did they really get before they chickened out last minute. Like what? 10? Bet the rest of it was just spam too.

Well with the Bryant case, it was well beyond established that Kobe's only crime was infidelity and cheating on his wife. The woman in question had concocted a scheme with her boyfriend the whole scheme, which was pretty much exhaustively proven. Not that celebs don't do such bad things.

Y' see... South Park was right when they did the Michael Jackson episode. Some times they just wanna make these big time rich celebrities look like crooks to make themselves feel better about making a fifth of their daily paycheck in their lifetime.

Pee Wee? I'm glad he's back. There is NO greater feeling of happiness that he didn't kill the character in shame. Yet, I'm sure they keep hiring sex offenders with child porn to coach kiddy soccer games and NO ONE knows about it until it's too late. Then they wind up getting rehired. And I'm not even going to get into the Catholic priest scandal.

Again, she's wearing something that's not even all that worse from a Disney princess that SW argued her down to a body stocking that really constricts her figure. She did NOT show anything off, she did NOT bump and grind, she did not even appear in the segment with an actual child. Any of that and I'd fully agree. And I agree with whoever said it, I see some mothers wearing some PRETTY overly flattering attire. Especially married women who want to show it off. Something about that is WRONG.
