Johnny Bravo coming to DVD

I just watched some Johnny Bravo on Cartoon Network today too, which is making me look forward to this DVD set even more.

Before I had the Cartoon Network on my cable system, I kept reading about Johnny Bravo in the animation magazines and I wished I had that network so I can see this interesting series and hear the voice artists. Thankfully, I got my sister to tape the first season for me for she had CN in her town. Then a few years later, CN finally came to my cable system and I got to see Johnny along with my other favorite CN stars.

On the subject of Johnny B, did anyone else besides me hear of the rumor several years ago about a live action movie being made? Apparently the producers were holding out for Dwayne Johnson for the role.

Guess that fell through, because I hadn't heard anything about it since. I do remember though around the same time when talks of a live action Courage movie arose (not official, just fans bouncing around ideas), it seemed that Peter Boyle was the popular choice for Eustace, and Brenda Flicker (the pigeon lady from Home Alone 2) for Muriel.

Yes I actually do remember hearing that a live action Johnny Bravo made was going to be made with the former Rock Dwayne Johnson playing the title role. I'm not sure what happened to it.

Anyhow, man am I looking forward to this DVD release.

They were planning to make live action versions of ALL these Cartoon Network shows. There was even to be a live action KND movie, but that was before CN chickened out and released the animated KND movie directly to TV, not even a home video release. The only live action movies based on cartoons they ever did were both Ben 10, and even then, they were both TV only. I'm not counting Scooby-Doo, since that's technically not a Cartoon Cartoon or CN original.

I'm surprised they didn't go ahead with a KND movie... that was like one of their many new shows that was instantly over-rated. As a kid, I didn't think it was fair that we didn't get hardly any merchandise for shows like Cow and Chicken and Courage, and then all of the sudden, every new show post-KND that came out automatically got a sleu of merchandise! Even the Eds FINALLY got merchandise after a while, but they were still in production at the time.

Though, I remember reading an interview with John R. Dilworth, and he said Courage wasn't a very marketable item as far as merchandise is concerned, because he made him pink, and the market's demographics is mostly boys.

The thing is, the KND stuff was made by a smaller, independent company. Truth be told, Trendmasters (or whatever it was called) had the license to make other CN show merchandise for a while. I distinctly remember seeing prototypes of Cow and Chicken and Johnny Bravo figurine sets. But they never happened, or if they did, I never seen them. I do have some Dexter's Lab merchandise they released, but only because I found it at a Blockbuster video.

Plus the KND stuff was here and gone within a few months... it didn't sell all that well... but I did really like the 1.5" figurine sets they sold... big fan of M.u.s.c.l.e. and Monster in my Pocket type toys as I am. Mattel had a general CN merchandise line featuring the Eds, Fosters, Grim and the like... but I only found them at KB's, and they didn't really seem to carry them for long (even before the store closures). That, and the Eds were one of those shows that didn't catch on at first, but exploded much much later in the series. It was on the air 5 years before it really hit, I think.

But the KND movie would have happened if CN wasn't so chickenhearted about releasing the animated film theatrically. Since that never happened, they completely dropped plans.

Oh! Yeah, I remember those, I think I had them too... wasn't there like a large Dexter figure with a twistable head, some kind of mini-machine with different slides in it, and for some reason a small figurine of Dee Dee and Monkey?
