Katey Segal performed as a singer during a Blues Brothers concert which aired on the Disney Channel a few years back (like mid '90's actually) and she can rock the stage.

I was talking with a friend of mine and actually I do believe she could carry the show on her own--she can't be denied the amount of talent that she has.

However, when considering the use of Muppets in the argument we're continuing certain characters, not replacing them but ARE replacing their performers which would not ahve worked for 8 Rules--nobody else could have played Ritter's character successfully enough to maintain an audience interest. Fortunately for the show's audience, they won't be replacing his character with another performer but will be letting him go from the series and bringing in a different actor to mentor as 'father figure' to the cast.

In this case, it's Henry Winkler (per radio reports) who does have huge shoes to fill.

And you're right about the Valerie show; I didn't remember it having a big 5 year run like that. The show began as Valerie in 1986, Valerie's Family in 87, and The Hogan Family in 88-1991. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/thehoganfamily.html

Thus, I concede that the show has a huge chance for survival.

One thing Winkler, a longtime friend of Ritters, said was that Ritter did die happy because within just the past few weeks he kept mentioning how happy he really was.

On another note, Ritter was diagnosed for the problem about a month ago and wouldn't get it treated because he had heard too many times of people dying in surgery. The radio reported that they rushed him to the hospital where, in surgery, he died. He could have likely been saved had he gone to the hospital when it was suggested, not unlike our own Jim who didn't go until it was too late.

It's a shame, though, that I never fully appreciated Ritter's acting until after he's died--I guess because he makes it all seem so effortless, and that is a true measure of talent when the performance you do is soooo natural.

I think it's nice that Henry Winkler is taking over to be an "uncle" or whatever. I was watching them talking about him on GMA, and it sounds like the two of them were very close. I think John Ritter would have approved.

I think (based on reports) that they were good friends, so I expect it's a good thing he's coming into the picture. Winkler was scheduled to do the show anyways.

This is very off-topic, but no one has ever called me BR2. I just find it interesting, and that's how boring my life is.

Carry on!
I was afraid I'd spell your SN wrong

anyway! that wasn't a thing I had thought of for the series, and know what? I have faith in it!!! for once, ABC might be picking up (although I don't think they made the decision singlehandedly)

Sorry Kev. I thought they might me doing something right by keeping the show on the air. I know its hard to tell if it will do good. I for one like Henry. Hes' a good actor for sitcoms and movies. I can't wait but still I do have the lost of John. Still can't believe hes gone.

About Katey and her singing. She sings from time to time in Futuruma. She's Leala. (Bad spelling) Well I can't wait for the next three episodes and hoping it last for a few more years.

just saw the premiere of 8 Simple Rules and I have to say....wow...some of the dialogue was so...prophetic, it was scary...

and to not spoil it (in case someone recorded it) I'm just going to say I'm glad for the show that it turned out negative. I REALLY don't think the show would have continued the other way.

I missed the beginning, so I think I missed some of the "propheticness". But I think you're right, that would not have worked very well if the show had turned out differently.

hmm prophetic...well actually the part that made me sort of think that was where the neighbor (can't remember his name...was it bob?) was talking to him at the newspaper...there was some line, just one, that I went ohhh *lip quiver*

I'll watch it again sometime and find the line

but I laughed HARD my two favorite parts where the pudding, and the why'd you get him a guitar? *loved the monkey episode*

I haven't had a chance to post on this board, but I feel I should since I've watched a lot of John Ritter on TV. (I never knew Johnny Cash though unfortunatley) I used to watch "Three's Company" in the morning when it was on a local TV station. Also, he made a lot of appearances on "Hollywood Squares." I even saw an episode of "8 Simple Rules" where they spoofed "Three's Company." I really enjoyed that. John was a terrific actor. May he rest in peace.
