It's a shame how Kermit is gone

I really miss seeing Kermit on Sesame Street. He was a good charachter, and if he was still around, they could have done street stories which revolved around him just like they did with Ernie. They still continue to air DoderubberDuck every now and then, with Kermit in it, but it just doesn't seem the same. I wish they would bring back his old Newsflashes, or his old Grover the Salesman sketches. I hope someday they get rights to the charachter again and BRING HIM BACK

His last two non-classic appearances was in 2001, first he introduced Kep Mo singing a song about Sesame Street (and even Frazzle made a comeback that time), and you can see Kermit dancing with Zoe. Then he was the reporter one last time for the hurricane saga where he and Al Roker were reporting on the hurricane's everymoves. Now all they do is rarely show classic skits, but during the closing credits under (c) 2004 Sesame Workshop is a little note that says "'Kermit the Frog' character and name are trademarks of the Jim Henson Company." So now, Kermit can't even be on a street scene anymore, unless SW were to work out a deal with Disney. I miss Kermit, he was one of the first on Sesame Street, and I liked how he would make crossovers from SS to TMS, and from TMS to SS. One of my favorite Kermit moments is where he never had luck with the monsters, Grover used to ruin his demonstations, and then Elmo would come along making Kermit late for just about everything.

It would be great to see him back. It gets complicated when theres now 3 companies owning various Jim Henson characters and productions.

According to IMDb, we don't see much Kermit because Sesame refuses to make any more new Kermit footage in honor of Jim. Sesame considers Kermit the most frequent guest star.

The most tragic thing is that, when Kermit was appearing on SS and was also seen on TMS, there was a common link. People would know that the characters were somehow related, and that the definition of "Muppet" was somehow extended beyond TMS.

A friend of mine told me that she asked her younger sister if she knew what the Muppets were, and could answer because of the recent batch of Muppet movies. Then she asked her sis "Well what about Big Bird and Oscar?" Sis's reply was "no, they're Sesame Street, not Muppets"... that really said it all :frown:

Initially, there was to have been no new Kermit or Ernie material for that reason, but the two characters were to have a life outside of SS in whatever projects Henson had conceived for them and would have their old material live on through re-runs. It soon changed its position on Ernie, and the Steve Whitmire-voiced Ern is well and truly established on the show. Kermit, however, only appeared in sketch re-runs until he made the guest appearances that have been noted elsewhere in this thread
